(NC)—As the holiday season draws near, so will the invitations to holiday parties and get-togethers. Bringing a token gift for your host or hostess is not only proper etiquette, but it’s also important for letting your host know how much you appreciate his or her efforts. To help choose that special something for every gracious host, the holiday gift team at Canadian Tire has the following suggestions: • A popular host or hostess gift is a bottle of wine or spirits. To complement the gift, choose a festive, re-usable cloth bag or box to tote this item to the party. • Consider a selection of flavoured coffee or tea such as chocolate mint or candy cane along with a themed set of family mugs. • A holiday photo is the perfect idea for family get-togethers. Look for holiday inspired photo frames and choose a special photo from a previous holiday event or special day. • Bring something to add to your host/hostess’ holiday decor. Wreaths, candles or a selection of ornaments is both functional and thoughtful. Stop by Canadian Tire where you can mix and match co- ordinated items to create a personalized gift that can be used throughout the holiday season. • Make a batch of your famous holiday cookies, jam or other treat. Personalize this gift by using thoughtful packaging, holiday stickers and ribbon. As an added touch, tie the recipe to the top of the package so your host may enjoy the treat again. • Think about your host’s hobbies when shopping and stop by a store like Canadian Tire that has pre- wrapped gift baskets and themed gifts for the cook, do-it-yourselfer, automotive, golf or hockey enthusiast. Host, hostess gifts made easy The ongoing saga of a potentialdevelopment on the former Seaforth Public School property came to a close on Dec. 16 with the passing of a zoning amendment bylaw that will authorize construction in the spring. After nearly a year of lying dormant, the development agreement for the proposed sub- division has been approved and signed by Brian Barnim, the developer and the Municipality of Huron East. The agreement was signed earlier this month, but council actually passed the bylaw at its meeting last week. The vote, a recorded one, saw council approve the motion by a vote of 9-2 with councillors Larry McGrath and Bob Fisher votingagainst the bylaw.A 20-day period to appeal thedecision has begun where membersof the public can appeal the decision, if they wish, to the Ontario Municipal Board. Huron County planners Cindy Fisher and Carol Leeming were at the meeting to present their report on the proposed zoning amendment and development agreement. They recommended that council give the motion third and final reading at the Dec. 16 meeting. There were members of the public in attendance and a letter submitted to council from Margaret Ward, a neighbour to the proposed development property who has asked for a privacy fence due to the increased traffic that will flow past her property because of the proposed (and now approved) road allowance as well as the construction. “My lot is small and theconstruction alone will be veryoffensive,” the letter read. The development is proposed to be a phased sub-division, with construction hopefully, Barnim says, starting in the spring on phase one.Properties involved in the secondphase still currently have a holdingon them that will dealt with at a later date.
