Councillor Paul Gowing, a member of the community centre’s board, said he had attended North Huron council where motions putting that proposal in place had been deferred. He noted that the two municipalities have an agreement to share the deficit at the centre and if North Huron takes actions that might increase the deficit, it would affect taxpayers in Morris-Turnberry. “They’ve already lost functions because people want alcohol at Christmas parties,” said Nancy Michie, administrator, clerk- treasurer. *** The collapse of a joint policing proposal between several municipalities will have little effect on Morris-Turnberry, Michie said. The estimate is that policing will cost the municipality about 7.6 per cent more in 2009, about the same as it would have if the joint contract had gone forward. *** Michie was presented with a bracelet with the municipal crest on it in honour of completing 30 years with the municipality. The Ontario fire service offers the following tips for the safe use of candles. Secure your candles in sturdy holders and, if possible, place glass chimneys or shades on them. Keep lit candles out of the reach of children and pets. and well away from any combustible materials. An unattended candle is an invitation to disaster, so don't forget to snuff out your candles before leaving the room or going to bed. Remember to keep all matches and lighters out of the sight and reach of children.
