Brussels Public School...
Why is Santa’s suit red?
“I think it’s because it’s a
Christmas colour. He has to wear it.
He doesn’t like the colour red.
I think if he could pick, he would
wear a white suit.”
- Matthew
“He wears the red suit because he
likes red. I think it’s his favourite
colour.
If I was Santa, I’d wear a white
and black suit. I think I would get
sick of wearing red all the time.” -
Devin
“He wears the red suit because that
way it wouldn’t be too cold. If it gets
too cold, he should put a hood on his
coat. It’s warmer. It’s the colour of
blood too.
He wouldn’t want a white suit
because it’s the same colour as snow,
so I think it would be cold for him.”
- Nathan
“His suit is red because a lot of the
presents are red. I don’t think he
would ever want another colour, he’d
never get sick of it. If it was up to
me, I would get a green suit. I think
it would look nice on clothes.” -
Kyla
“He has the red suit because it’s
one of the Christmas colours. Maybe
he could have a green suit, I don’t
know why he doesn’t.” - Megan
“He wears it because the snow is
white. If he had a white suit, he
would blend into the snow. Santa
wants a red suit so he can be seen.” -
Dustin
“He likes the red suit because it’s
just like Christmas. He likes red
foods though too. It could be red
because he likes apples.” - Ben
“He wears the red suit because
he’s Santa. He has a closet full of
them so he won’t ever get hot.” - Joe
“I think he wears the red suit
because red is one of the Christmas
colours and it’s his favourite colour
too.” - Myles
“I think it’s red because the elves
make it. All of Santa’s suits are red,
but he has a black one and a green
one too. On Christmas Day, when
he’s done giving out presents, I think
that’s when he wears the black suit.”
- Desiree
“He wears the red suit because he
is red. His beard is white, but he has
a red hat too.” - Wade
“I like Christmas because you get
to spend time with your family and
that’s the special-est.
I have no idea why Santa’s suit is
red, maybe because red and green
are good colours for Christmas. It
could be because there is too much
green in Christmas already with all
the Christmas trees.”
- John
“I think he wears it because it’s a
Christmas colour. It goes well with
the black and white on the rest of the
suit.” - Allison
“I think he wears the red suit
because some girls’ and boys’
clothes are red. It could be green I
guess, but green isn’t really a
Christmas colour, red is the bigChristmas colour.” - Julia“I forget. Wait, maybe it’s because it’s thecolour he likes the most because hehas a lot of it on his coat and his
pants.” - Jacob
“Because he likes red, I guess.
Maybe because his sled is red too.” -
Alaina“Maybe he just likes the colourred.”- Hayley“I think it’s because it’s the one he
likes to wear when he gives presents
out. He only has one of the suits, but
he doesn’t wash it though.”
- Seth
PAGE 16. THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 24, 2008.
Though it might seem as though
it’s been around forever, the beloved
holiday song Frosty the Snowman
actually wasn’t produced until 1950.
Written by Jack Rollins and Steve
Nelson, the song was first recorded
by legendary country singer Jack
Autry and the Cass County Boys.
Once they finished penning the now
classic Christmas tune, Rollins and
Nelson shipped the lyrics to Autry,
who just a year earlier achieved great
success with another holiday
favourite, Rudolph the Red Nosed
Reindeer.
While Autry’s version remained
the most successful, and arguably
most recognizable, version of Frosty
for many years, its success in terms
of charting was actually outdone just
a year ago. The peak position for
Autry’s original version on the U.S.
Pop Singles chart was #7 back in
1950.
However, the 2007 rendition by
former American Idol participant
Kimberly Locke reached #1 on the
Billboard U.S. Hot Adult
Contemporary chart. The television
adaptation of Frosty the Snowman
remains a staple of the television
schedule each holiday season.
