PAGE 2. THE CITIZEN, WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 24, 2008.
On Saturday, Dec. 6 Brussels
resident Edna Pearson received a
call that she would never forget. Her
great-grandson six-year-old Jesse
Procter, son of Mark Procter,
London and grandson of Murray and
Nancy (Pearson) Procter of
California had suffered a brain
hemorrhage.
He was rushed by plane from New
Liskeard to the Children’s Hospital
of Eastern Ontario in Ottawa.
Surgery, lasting 10 1/2 hours, was
performed to stop the bleeding.
The surgery was successful and
the wait began, said Mrs. Pearson.
Five days later he was taken off the
ventilator, breathing on his own.
On Sunday morning, Dec. 14 he
opened his eyes and said, “Mom I
love you” to his mother, Melissa.
Jesse has some weakness in his
right side and it is hoped with
therapy and with youth on his side
he will make a good recovery, said
Mrs. Pearson.
“Many people are praying for
his recovery. God does answer
prayer. It is truly our Christmas
miracle.”
On Friday, Dec. 12 students and
parents from Grey Central Public
School went carolling throughout
Cranbrook, Ethel, and Brussels to
spread Christmas cheer and raise
money for the school's Free the
Children fund in attempt to build a
school overseas.
The month of December has been
a very busy yet productive month at
Grey Central.
The Character Club has started
several fundraisers (as mentioned
above) to help build a school.
Students have decorated doors,
practised and sung stories about the
season. They performed for parents
and families at the Christmas
concert.
The children have enjoyed times
with the buddy program - reading,
getting more physically fit, creating
character posters for empathy, and
testing each other with seasonal
riddles.
Now, they’re all ready for the
Christmas break.
Congratulations to all the winners
of the Christmas parade.
