HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Citizen, 2008-12-18, Page 22People have been travelling again
this past couple of weeks including
members of the McNichol family.
Heading off to Florida and Walt
Disney World for an early Christmas
treat from Wes and MaryAnne
Spence were Dan, Lynn, Madison
and Monica McNichol, Matt,
Jenessa, Gracie, Clayton and Paige
McNichol and Jason, Lorianne,
Emma, Claire and Raymond Horan.
They were all able to stay in a huge
rented house at Kissimmee for the
week they were away.
They flew from Detroit and upon
landing rented a huge travel van and
a car that held the 16 of them. They
spent a couple of days at Magic
Kingdom, another day at Animal
Kingdom as well as time at
Downtown Disney, where the largest
LegoLand is. They saw fantastic
displays of Lego creations that were
almost unbelievable.
The eight grandchildren enjoyed
seeing all of the characters and going
on the rides, but the best part of all
was swimming everyday and
playing with their cousins.
The big kids enjoyed Disney just
as much as the little ones. The sights
were spectacular and the week went
far too fast.
Dan, Lynn, Jason and Lorianne
also took time to go to a Tampa Bay
Lightning hockey game. Tampa Bay
lost to the Boston Bruins 3-1. It was
a good game but the real adventure
was Dan driving them back and
getting them lost in a questionable
part of town.
The group returned home to one of
southwestern Ontario’s famous
snowstorms and considered getting
on another plane back to Florida’s
75°F weather.
Spending five days away were Bill
and Sharon McClure. They drove to
Noblesville, Indiana to spend time
with their daughter Sandy, her
husband Cory and their
grandchildren Ty, Olivia and Sophia.
They report having a wonderful
time with them all and that the
family will be coming home to
Ontario after Christmas. They report
that there was only a bit of snow in
Indiana, but found lots here on their
return.
For the more adventurous type
here’s a trip you would enjoy.
Heading off to Northern Quebec and
a 27-hour drive, was a group from
our area to go caribou hunting. They
were approximately 400 kms. north
of Radison if you’re looking on a
map. Hoping to have a successful
hint were Jim and Will Thompson,
Cheryl Lee, Greg McLeod, Paul
Cook and a couple more men. The
men were more successful than
Cheryl but they all managed to enjoy
the many days of hunting to get a
dozen caribou.
They also hunted ptarmigan,
which is a small pheasant-type bird.
The trip was a gift for Cheryl and
she reports she really enjoyed it.
Hubby Matt Lee stayed at home to
look after the three little boys, with
just the occasional relief sitting by
grandma Judy and Sheila and Aunt
Lisa.
Returning from a week’s stay in
British Columbia are Keith and Rita
Mulvey. They were out there to visit
with son Greg Mulvey, who has
bought a home there. He is living in
Surrey, south of Vancouver and loves
it. Keith reports it is a lovely area
and they really enjoyed their visit.
It was hot, hot, then a little cool forDarwin Ducharme and BevStevenson on their trip to Tulum,Mexico, near Cancun and the MayanRiviera. They went to theChichinichi and Coba ruins. Darwinmade the climb to the top of Coba, and reports it was amazing. Theyenjoyed great weather, 85°F exceptthe last day when it was cool. They
were met there by Darwin’s brother
Les and wife Frieda, from Edmonton
and report having a great time.
Those in hospital are Mary
Huether in Seaforth hospital, Mary
Mann in Listowel hospital, Don
Fraser in London hospital, Max

wishes go out to all.

Debra Terpstra on the birth of a
daughter last week. Olivia Rose
brings the count to nine girls and 12
boys on Moncrieff Road.
Heidi McClure held an open house
at her home on Walton Road to
celebrate the opening of her home
business Heidi’s Esthetics. There
was a nice crowd in attendance to
see what services she has to offer
and congrats to her and her newventure. There were nine members andthree guests at the Majestic Women’sInstitute Christmas meeting andmeal at the Walton Inn lastWednesday. They enjoyed a turkeydinner and their secret pal gifts wereexchanged. The Walton Hall board catered to

of over 40 people enjoyed a dinner
of ham and scalloped potatoes, then
an afternoon of visiting and
socializing.
A correction to last week is that
brother Ray is here from Alberta, not
Neil. They were both at Christmas
though and Ray will be returning
soon.
Belated congratulations to
Rebecca Dauphin and Al DeVos on
their marriage in early December.
Grandma reports it was a beautiful
wedding and one to remember
because of the not-so-beautiful
weather. The couple are residing
near Wingham. Rebecca is the
daughter of Gary and Heather
Dauphin.
The Brindley family held its
Christmas at the Walton Hall on
Sunday. There were about 35
members able to attend and enjoy
the day. The host family was Doug

The Walton Hall Community
Christmas Concert was held on
Wednesday evening with a smaller
crowd than other years. It was a
wonderful little concert raved those
attending and hope it will continue
on.
A variety of entertainers took part.
The MC for the evening was Neil
McGavin who was his usual
entertaining self and kept the show
moving along. Jamie Mitchell
played two numbers on the bagpipes.
Three children of Marvin and
Wendy Bachert played and sang for
the concert. Devin Bachert sang,
What Child Is This with mom
playing the piano. Heidi played O
Holy Night on the violin and was
joined by Hilary on the violin to play
O Little Town of Bethlehem.
A piano solo by Ryan Baan, called
The Ukrainian Christmas Carol was
enjoyed by all as a familiar tune.
Murray McCall and Andrew Patrick
on violin and Sherry McCall on
piano played two sets of Christmas
songs and other tunes for the toe-
tapping crowd.
Ten children from the Butterfly
Bus sang their versions of Rudolph
the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Jingle
Bells and Santa Claus is Coming to
Town. They were Cody and Shawna
Terpstra, Jake Gulutzen, Haden and
Jacob Flood, Mitchell, Taylor and
Matthew McKee and Zac and
Rebecca Fougere. Haden Flood also
sang a solo called Christmas Don’t
Be Late.
The comedy relief of the night was
the dance duo of Kenny Rogers and
Dolly Parton, aka Sherry McCall and
Bus-ted
The Butterfly Bus Choir, as they were dubbed by their
driver, Jo-Ann McDonald, were called out on stage by
McDonald last week at the annual Walton Christmas
concert. They volunteered earlier in the week and then
came up with a bit of stage fright when the curtain was
pulled back, but the choir took the stage to perform a few
Christmas favourites with a little coercing and coaching
from McDonald. (Shawn Loughlin photo)
The Walton Duff’s United Church
held its white gift Sunday this past
week and had a nice gathering of
items to send to the Huron County

are completed.
