Blyth PeeWee Reps travelled onDec. 10 to play the undefeatedTeeswater team.The first period was end-to-endaction but neither team was able tosink the puck. Blyth and Teeswatereach had a penalty. The second period was penalty- free but full of action. Blyth’s Mike VanWyk started the scoring with an assist from Spencer Stevenson. Just 20 seconds later Teeswater tied it up. Matt VanWyk with help from brother Mike, squeaked one past Teeswater’s netminder to put Blyth back in the lead. Then just two minutes later Teeswater tied it again. But Blyth kept the pressure on. After a pass from Stevenson, Dustin Pennington bulged the top left corner of Teeswater’s net. The third period was an aggressiveone with Teeswater getting fourpenalties and Blyth, three including,two bench penalties.With the score tied at three, Blythhad to dig deep. Pennington scoredanother top-shelf goal with the assist going to Wyatt Carey. The final goal of the game went to Mike VanWyk with the assist going to Matt VanWyk. Goalie Dalton Carey kept Teeswater from scoring any more goals. The final score was 5-3 for Blyth. Proud coach Scott Stevenson had to watch from the stands after being ejected with 12 minutes left in the third period. Blyth played Wingham in an exhibition game. Blyth was first on the scoreboardwhen Stevenson passed to ArdenCoultes who tapped it in. Then MikeVanWyk passed to Coultes who gaveit to Matt VanWyk. He shot andscored in the top corner.Blyth got the first goal in the second when Coultes scored with help from Mike VanWyk and Braydon Whitfield. Wingham jammed one in past goalie Dalton Carey to end the second period with Blyth in the lead 3-1. Blyth stayed strong in the third scoring two more goals. Mike VanWyk scored with the assist going to brother Matt. Coultes scored his hattrick with help from the VanWyk twins. The final score was 5-1 for Blyth. Team advances The Gore Mutual Schoolboy Zone 14 competition was held at the Wingham Golf and Curling Club on Dec. 13 and 14. The team consisting of, from left: coach Shawn Cottrill, skip Kyle Forster, vice Ben Procter, second Matthew Hallahan and lead Matthew Cottrill, won the A division with three straight victories. They advance to the regional competition in Niagara Falls, Jan. 31 and Feb. 1. (Photo submitted) PeeWees defeat Teeswater 5-3 The Blyth PeeWee Local League travelled to Wingham on Sunday. Blyth was shorthanded, missing two regulars from the lineup. With 39 seconds remaining in the first period Dalton Richmond opened the scoring, from a pass by Dylan Bromley. Josh VanSoest scored his first of the day 10 minutes into the second on a pass from Trystan Weber. The third period saw Robbie Gordon shoot home an unassisted goal to increase the lead to three. Wingham scored one of their own later in the third, but Blyth bounced right back and VanSoest netted his second with help from Weber and Gordon. Kyle Pollard ripped one into the net to finish the scoring of the day with help from Weber and VanSoest. Goalie Dustin Treble played another strong game shutting down the Wingham team. The team completed the game with nine skaters. The coaches needed to keep moving players in and out of various positions to keep the team as fresh as possible. All of the defencemen, Dallas Coultes, Ryan Plunkett, Bromley and Gordon took turns at playing forward during the game. The final score was 5-1 for Blyth.Batter up There were big swings and big hits last weekend in Brussels at the broomball tournament held at the Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre. In this Saturday clash, the Outlaws took on the Snipers, with the Snipers jumping out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first half and never looking back. PeeWee Locals play Wingham Sunday night, Dec. 7 the Saugeen Lightning Midget AAs bested the Windsor Wildcats 4-1 in Lower Lakes Female Hockey League action. Goal scoring for the Lightning came from four different sources in the game, Tammy Freiburger, Wingham, Lindsey Ceaser, Owen Sound,Victoria Bertrand, Port Elgin, and Molly McNulty, Kincardine. This past weekend, the Lightning tied the Kitchener Rangers 2-2. Goal scoring came from Freiburger and Shannon Myles, Lions Head. The Lightning have a big double-header this Sunday, Dec. 21 in Howick at 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. against the Cambridge Roadrunners. Lightning Midget AAs bested Windsor Wildcats The Brussels PeeWee Reps played extremely well last week against Monkton, winning 8-2. Goals were scored by Wyatt Ducharme, Mitchell Kellington, Hayden TenPas, Tim Waechter with two, and Brock McLean with a hattrick. Assisting them were Kellington, TenPas, Anthony Vader, Ducharme, Waechter, Reece McArter and Colton Hastings. Goalie Matt McNichol was on fire in the Brussels net. Big victory for Brussels PeeWee Reps
