Stamping for turkey
Shopping for Christmas dinner could have been simplified last week if you were lucky enough
to have a winning card at last week’s Turkey Bingo at Memorial Hall in Blyth put on by the Blyth
Lions. Helen Brenie, left, and Marjorie Brock, right, were keeping their ears open, hoping for a
call to go their way while John Stewart, centre, was the man on number-calling duty. (Shawn

Rev. Gary Clark welcomed
everyone to church on the Third
Sunday of Advent. Brett Glousher lit
the Advent candles while David Onn
and Rev. Clark gave the readings.
The congregation and the choir
sang the second and third verses of
Hope is a Star while some of the
Sunday school members carried the
symbols of hope, peace and joy to
the front of the church.
Rev. Clark introduced the guest
speaker Paul Bertrand and his wife
Anita.
The children were asked to bringthe food for the food bank and thewhite gifts to the front and put themunder the Christmas tree. Rev. Clarkexplained to the children why peoplebring food and white gifts. Thechildren were invited to comeforward to prepare the baptismalfont. They all put their hands in thewater and said a prayer for the baby
being baptized.
Cappy and Gil Garratt and the
godparents of Gulliver were asked to
come to the front. Rev. Robin
McGauley baptized the baby and
Paul Bertrand read the blessing for
Gulliver.
The hymn, Infant Holy Infant
Lowly was sung while those taking
party in the baptism returned to their
seats. The gospel lesson, Matthew
11: 2-10 was read by Lorna Fraser.
Paul Bertrand told the
congregation of his work in
Northern Uganda and how the
children in Parda are mostly orphans
as their parents were casualties of
war. The war in Uganda has been
going on for some 20 years.
The Sunday school children from
Blyth United Church had sent
money for goats for their penpals inUganda. When the goats have their youngthe people of Uganda are asked togive the first female goat to anotherfamily so they can have food andmilk from the goats. This year the Sunday schoolchildren have collected money tosend to Uganda for uniforms for
their penpals. They have collected
enough for uniforms for more than
just their penpals.
In Uganda if you do not have a
uniform you cannot go to school.
The hymn, O Perfect Love was
sung as the children went downstairs
for their time of fellowship.
Everyone was invited downstairs
for lunch and to share more stories
from Uganda.
