HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Citizen, 2008-12-18, Page 2The countdown is on. The excitement of the season is here. This season brings out the best in folks. Kind thoughts are shared, cards and notes hit the post office for other places and we think kind thoughts. As the days before Christmas pass, thoughts of past year flood our minds, life changes, illness and death, people and events, all the things that have affected us and forever changed our world. It’s hard work revisiting the past and all the turmoil and unsettling that goes with sadness and sorrow. Each of us is unique – made of body, mind and spirit and so each of us handles life in our own way. Solitude for some brings comfort, for others the company of friends is vital and for many, a nice balance of both keeps the emotions of loss and Christmas in balance. As as this season unfolds, be alert and aware of the fragile state of mind of those in your midst. Love is the theme and overriding emotion of Christmas as we move through the Advent time of waiting with hope, peace and joy in our days. As you hustle about don’t forget to breath and enjoy the moments about you. For us this week it’s watching Robyn, six, cope with the joys of chicken pox as her peers do all the neat things prior to Christmas vacation. Cookie making, naps, tree decorating, snacks and naps and movies seem to be helping her cope, oh no, that was me coping. A nice visit with Jeanette Boynton last week brought us up to date on each other’s lives. So hello from Jeanette. Bev. Brown had made her debut in Stratford and is settling in nicely to the Greenwood Court on the street of the same name. So be sure to check out her new abode if you’re in Stratford. At 90 Alma Watson know how to party. She was at restaurants, house parties and a family dinner last week and enjoyed them all. In her quiet way she thanked everyone but said she wasn’t going to do it again! (Be 90 that is). Greetings of the season to all the subscribers of The Citizen who are here in heart if not in body. May your Christmas be as merry as can be. If you need time to sing all your favourite Christmas songs don’t forget to come to the United Church next Monday at 7 p.m. All your favourites are available and for some it’s become a tradition that seems to set the spirit of the season. Join us. Only seven sleeps left. Bye now, Betty G.W. PAGE 2. THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, DECEMBER 18, 2008. Sixteen members of Morning Star Rebekah Lodge enjoyed a turkey dinner at JR’s. The meeting was held at Melville Presbyterian Church following dinner. Three officers were absent. Christmas cards were sent to Leola Harrison and Linda Jacklin. Gifts were delivered to Shirley Turnbull and Sisters Reta Merkley, Helen Bray, Marie McTaggart and Leona Connelly. Members signed a card for Marion Young, Sarah Stephenson and Elva Brown who is a patient in Goderich hospital. A social time and gift exchange after closing lodge were enjoyed. Joyce Jacklin gave several humorous readings, followed by the singing of carols. The next meeting will be Tuesday, Jan. 13 at 7 p.m. Morning Star Lodge enjoys turkey dinner Union negotiations After bringing a list of grievances to Santa and Mrs. Claus, the reindeer eventually discussed their problems with Santa and all was well at the end of last week’s Christmas production of Reindeer Rebellion by the students of Brussels Public School. However, for the majority of the play, the Clauses sure had their hands full. From left: Wyatt Machan, Teegan McGavin, Nolan Johnston and Tyler Vandermeer.
