United Church, Goderich.
“Well the weather outside is
frightful…”
Ah yes a Huron county storm just
to let us know who’s in charge. Lots
of snow and wind made for a good
old storm on Sunday.
Once you’re in a safe place, you
can actually enjoy the power of a
storm – the issue is getting to the
safe spot. Unplowed roads, wild
winds and lots of snow made getting
home from work early Sunday
morning another of life’s
experiences.
The hometown lights are always
nice and with the beautiful
Christmas tree at the medical dental
building and the new lights on the
light standards, Brussels once again
was a welcome sight. Thanks to the
Huron East crew and the Optimist
Club for their visual aids to
celebrate the season.
The dance of the municipal snow
crew is being practised early each
morning after a snowfall. It really is
a neat sight to watch the co-
ordination of the plow, blower and
trucks.
By the time most folks are up and
about all that is visible is a swept-
clean main street. You really need to
see them in action to fully
appreciate their work.
Well done fellows. Does this
mean you guys are really good
dancers too?
Huronlea volunteers had a good
day on Saturday as they hosted a
lunch and a bit of shopping. Good
food and treasures for sale made for
a pleasant time for all. A bit of
Christmas shopping could be done
from local folks and will make
someone happy.
The local church choirs enjoy
making music especially at this
time of year. To share their gifts
with the community they join for
this evening to sing the music they
are practising for their own
churches.
To hear all this talent you need to
get to the Anglican Church on
Sunday evening. This will be sure to
put you in the Christmas spirit.
As folks get into the Christmas
mood, the reason for the season does
surface. The birth of the baby Jesus
over 2,000 years ago still holds
some influence.
Your attendance at your favourite
church in the next few weeks will
help you recall why Christmas is so
important to family and friends this
year.
Enjoy all the fun of the season.
Bye now, Betty G.W.
The Dec. 3 Brussels UnitedChurch Women’s annual Christmaspotluck dinner had about 35 presentincluding guests.Karen Cardiff played Christmasmusic before dinner. Many peoplebrought items for the North Huron
Food Share.
Rene Richmond welcomed all and
asked pastor Sandra Cable to say
grace. Dinner was enjoyed by all.
Carols were sung following dinner
with Betty Campbell accompanying
on the piano.
Mrs. Richmond introduced theKipfer family. Pastor Brent Kipferand his family had spent severalweeks in Belize and surroundingarea this past summer. Theyexplored many areas, spent timesightseeing and met families. They
did some work in churches there,
learned a new language, culture,
foods, song and met some very new
and strange animals. It was very hot
there.
Nelva Scott read a poem The Long
Bobsled.
Sandra Cable read the Christmasstory from the King James Versionof the Bible, and closed with APrayer for the New Year, by HelenSteiner Rice. The evening closed with thesinging of Silent Night.35 attend UCW’s Christmas potluck

It was a quiet week around the
Brussels Legion Branch with the
usual meetings being held.
The Cadets met Tuesday evening
and had a good turnout. Young
people between the ages of 12 - 18
can still come out and check out
what Cadets are all about.
The Thursday night darts had a
great bunch on hand taking aim at
the boards. The first-place team was
Glen Zehr and Marlene Little. In
second place were Gord Jacklin and
Sandra Josling. The high shots were
by Gord with 133 and Marlene with
a 111.
Join in any night and have some
fun for only a buck.
The Friday night supper of turkey
and rice was enjoyed by many. This
week will be roast pork.
This will be the last meal for the
year, as the next week, Dec. 19 will
be our usual potluck meal. Everyone
is invited to join us and bring
something for supper at 6 p.m.
There is also a secret $10 gift
exchange for people to take part in if
they wish.
The cook is taking the next two
weeks off and suppers will resume
on Jan. 9.
There are only two weeks left to
get in and pay dues before the end of
the year. Comrade Greg Wilson
would appreciate everyone trying to
pay by Dec. 31 if possible. Maybe
pay your loved one’s dues as part of
a Christmas present.
Membership is important and the
Legion could use some new
members. If you know of anyone
interested in joining the Legion,
have them contact the Branch or
Greg Wilson.
Sports sheets are at the Branch.
Get in and sign up for sports you are
interested in.
