The Citizen, 2008-12-04, Page 10The Brussels PeeWee Reps had a busy week. In their first action Brussels was home to Zurich. Wyatt Ducharme scored the first goal with Colton Hastings assisting then Jordyn Sholdice scored the second with Hayden TenPas assisting. Zurich had a couple of breakaway goals but Lexi Smith broke the tie. In the third Zurich scored to finish the game 5-3. Matt McNichol played well in net. The PeeWees travelled to Ripley for a tournament. The first game was against Goderich. The 5-1 loss didn’t show how hard the team played. Tim Waechter scored the only Brussels goal. The second game was against Wingham. Brussels was hot on their game that day, but wasn’t able to get one in the net. The Saugeen Maitland Bantam Lightning girls travelled to play the Windsor Wildcats on Saturday, coming away with a 2-1 victory. Scoring for the Lightning were Brooklyn Irwin and Laura Irwin, with assists from Taylor Gilkinson, Sara Gossell and Kelly Gribbons. On Sunday, the Lightning faced off against the Guelph Thunder in Howick. Down 1-0 going into the third period, they gave up another early goal, but came back a few minutes later on a goal by Brooklyn Irwin, assisted by Laura Irwin and Abbey Gibson. With the goalie pulled at the end of the game, Marcie Landman found the net to tie the game 2-2. Assisting on the goal were Laura Irwin and Gibson. The Lightning currently sit in second place behind a very strong Bluewater Hawks team in the Bantam AA West division of the Lower Lakes Female Hockey League. Saugeen Maitland Bantams down Windsor Wildcats 2-1 The Brussels Atom Local League hosted Milverton on Friday night. They lost 4-2. Goals were scored by Kailey Wheeler, with a pass from Dalen Martin and Bennett Newell, from Wheeler. Goalie Konrad McArter was sold in the net. On Saturday they hosted Zurich. This game saw lots of firsts for the season. Kiaran Jared scored, with an assist from Wheeler. Derrick Waechter scored the second with an assist from Christopher VanVeen. This was Waechter’s first goal of the season. Martin scored his first of the season with an assist from Jared. Waechter scored the fourth and final goal for Brussels with an assist from VanVeen. Brussels won 4-1. McArter made numerous aves, earning him his first victory as the Brussels Atom Local League goalie. Romping The Blyth/Brussels PeeWee Girls took on Normanby at the Brussels, Morris and Grey Community Centre on Sunday leading the entire way enroute to a 17-0 shutout. (Shawn Loughlin photo) On a snowy Monday night theBlyth-Brussels Atom girls travelledto Kurtsville to play Howick. The team was missing sevenplayers, but they came out hard inthe first scoring three goals. Kathryn Chalmers had two and Samantha Kerr scored her first of the season. Assisting were Emma Strome with two, Ashley Stevenson and Morgan Howson. Howick Wallace kept the pressure on through the entire game. The home team scored early in the second and two more during the third. With two seconds on the clock the hosts added another to seal the 4-3 victory. Blyth was the site of a game against BCH. The hosts struck first just over a minute into the game.Strome lit up the scoreboard with ashot from Chalmers. Midway through the secondperiod Blyth-Brussels scored againwhen Howson found the back of the net, assisted by Teresa Atkinson. The home team continued to dominate scoring three more goals in the third, from Sydney Wightman, Chalmers and Tiffany Uyl would score. Assists were awarded to Atkinson and Ashley Stevenson. The game ended 5-0 in favour of the hosts. Carlie Ducharme earned her second shut out of the season. The first came when Blyth faced off against Walkerton. Just 38 seconds into the game Tiffany Deitner scored to give Walkerton the wake up call. Theassist going to Sydney Michie. The Atoms waited until there wasonly 2:28 left in the second to lightup the scoreboard again. EmilyMitchell scored unassisted. Blyth’s Teresa Atkinson hit the twine in the third with an assist awarded to Faith Sebastian. Walkerton continued to battle hard throught the game. The three stars of this game were Ducharme for earning her first shut out of the season, Ashley Johnston and Mitchell. On Nov. 15, girls travelled to Ayton. Missing four players the squad battled hard. Normanby was up five goals before the lone Blyth-Brussels goal was scored unassisted by Howson. Only in Huron East! Blyth’s Trystan Weber opened the scoring from a pass by Brendan Hallahan in the first. In the second period Robbie Gordon ripped a wrist shot from the blueline to beat the BCH goalie. Assisting on the play was Weber. The third period saw one more goal from Blyth as Ryan Plunkett scored the third and final goal of the game, unassisted. Goalie Dustin Treble earned his fourth shutout of the season. Blyth Dogs take on Icedogs The Brussels Tykes travelled to Clinton on Thursday night to play BCH. The teams were well matched. Wade Machan and Darien Fritz scored two goals each. Dana Dolmage also scored. The assists were Machan, Dustin Fritz and Jacob Roth. The final score was a 7-5 victory for BCH. The Tykes were back on the ice on Saturday for an exhibition game against Seaforth Novice Local League. Brussels held them back allowing just one goal in the first period. Seaforth dominated Brussels in the second period with five goals, and followed up with three more in the third period to take home a solid victory. Tough week for Brussels Tykes BUY? SELL?
