The Huron Perth AAA MajorPeeWees Lakers travelled toKitchener to participate in atournament over the Nov. 28-30weekend. The Lakers had high hopes for theweekend competition. However,
while they put in a good effort they
did not get the desired results.
The Lakers came out flying as they
opened the tournament against the
Buffalo Regals.
Two minutes into the game
McKenzie Carter led the forecheck
making a good pass back to
defenseman Frasier Lewis who fired
a low shot on net. Gregory Swan was
screening the goalie and pushed the
rebound through the goalie giving
the Lakers a 1-0 lead.
While killing a penalty goalie Eric
Ryan was called upon to make a
couple of fine saves. At the four -
minute marker the Regals finally
beat Ryan tying the score at one.
The Lakers struck right back with
three minutes to play in the period.
Alex Peters fed the puck to Swan
heading down the right wing. Swan
used Carter and Andrew Bogdon as
decoys and sniped a high hard shot
into the net making the score 2-1.
With seconds remaining in the
period the Regals tied it.
The Lakers continued to carry the
play throughout the second period
but could not penetrate the Buffalo
defensive zone coverage. The period
ended with the score still tied at two.
Early in the third period Buffalo
struck for the go-ahead goal on a
breakaway.
Just minutes later Brody TenPas
controlled the play down low in the
Regals’ zone. He fed a perfect pass
to Derek Elliott who directed a shot
towards the net. Taylor Moir
deflected the puck past the goalie
making the score 3-3. With five
minutes remaining Ryan Stulp-
Jacobson made a great play to keep
the puck on side getting the puck toTenPas down low. TenPas foundElliott in front of the net and heburied the puck making it 4-3 for theLakers. The team hung on with Ryanmaking a couple of late-game saves
to keeping the victory.

Templeman chipped a pass to Moir
in the corner, who then feathered a
pass to TenPas for the tying goal.

away led to the Eagles’ second goal.

to fight back. Templeman corralled a
puck in the corner and from one knee
passed it to Bayley Boyes. Roland
McKeown flew in from the point and
fired a shot into the net making the
score 3-2 Eagles.

got the puck to Lewis who flipped a
low shot on net. Moir read the
rebound perfectly and fired a shot
into the empty net closing the score
to 4-3.
Three Lakers’ penalties in the last
six minutes effectively shut down
any comeback bid.
Ryan was given the nod to start in
net against the North York Rangers.
The Rangers scored the first goal
midway through the second period.
The third period started with the
Rangers hemming the Lakers in deep
in their zone. A good save by Ryan
kept the Lakers hopes alive. A
couple of unnecessary penalties
were the eventual downfall of the
Lakers team as the Rangers scored
two powerplay goals to take a 3-0lead for the victory. The Lakers took to the ice to facethe league rival Cambridge Hawks. With seconds remaining in the firstperiod the Lakers’ powerplay wentto work. Swan passed the puck down
low to Templeman who sharply
directed a tape-to-tape pass to
Keigan Goetz who was all alone in
front of the net. Goetz took no time
at all to finish the job and put the
Lakers up 1-0. The Lakers continued
to carry the play during the second
period but saw the Hawks come
away with a 2-1 lead heading into
the third period.
Early in the third period McKeown
made the defensive play of the game
as he skated back to catch a flying
Hawks forward to thwart the
breakaway opportunity. Goalie Cole
Thomas made a good glove save at
the ten-minute mark to keep the
game close. With two minutes
remaining Templeman, Goetz and
Swan applied the pressure looking
for the equalizer. Defenseman Carter
Stewart drifted a great low shot on
net and Swan jammed the rebound
home to tie the score at two.
With one minute remaining the
Lakers lifted Thomas for the extra
attacker to try for the victory. The
Lakers were all over the Hawks
having many great scoring chances
with several near misses. Garrett
James made two great plays at the
blue line to keep the play alive.
