VanWyk, with assists from Dustin
Pennington and Wyatt Carey. The
second goal of the period also went

Mike VanWyk and Carey.
The second period belonged to the
Dogs who bulged the twine seven
more times. Goals went to
Pennington with two, Arden Coultes
and Trystan Weber. Mike VanWyk
scored a hattrick.
Assisting were Connor Rodger,
Ryan Nesbitt, Braydon Whitfield
with two, Mike VanWyk with two,
Weber, Rodgers with four and

year was goalie Dalton Carey.
It was Teeswater in town to take
on the Dogs Nov. 26.
Teeswater started the scoring by
getting two in the first period.
Blyth’s captain, Stevenson sunk an
unassisted goal in the first to end the
period with a 2-1 deficit. It was a
heavy hitting period with four
penalties for Teeswater and two for
Blyth.
The second period was also high
in penalties with three for Teeswater
and two for Blyth. Teeswater scored
the only point.

Dogs on the B side.

deal, Pennington scored again with

too late. Blyth won 4-3 to take them
to the finals.

knuckleragainst BCH.

period. The game was back and forth
but no pucks were sunk.

The Blyth Renegades junior
broomball team went to Barrie Nov.
28 and 29 to play in the national
juvenile broomball qualifier.
Blyth knew that their first game
against last year’s provincial
champs, the Ice Dogs from Ottawa,
would be very difficult. This elite
team was known for its cycling style
of play and Blyth took the first
period to catch on, so the Ice Dogs
were ahead 4-0 at halftime.
With just over two minutes left in
the game, Derek Dolmage scored.
The final score was a 6-1 loss for
the Renegades.
The ‘man of the match’ was given
to goalkeeper Graham Bedard for
his excellent effort in net and the
countless saves he made for this
team.
The Young Bucks, a Central West
team were the next squad that Blyth
was set to play.
At the end of the two halves, with
no score, the teams had to go into
overtime.
In the second period of overtime,
Joel Salverda set up the play and
Roman Sturzenegger scored to win
the game for his team.
Sturzenegger won man of the
match for his excellent playing
throughout the game.
Saturday the team was on the ice
and playing the Mildmay Moose by
6:45 a.m.
With just two and a half minutes
left in the first period Eric Radford
found the hole and scored with an
assist from Salverda. The Renegades
received a penalty for tripping and
while shorthanded, Sturzenegger
broke away from h is opponent’s
defenders and scored.
Blyth started off the second period
with a goal from Salverda assisted
by Sturzenegger.
Less than a minute later Mildmay
scored to narrow the gap.
Mildmay pulled their goalie.
Blyth left a man uncovered and their
opponents scored with just under
three minutes left. Sturzenegger
scored by running the ball up to the
open net on yet another breakaway.
The final score was a 4-2 victory
for Blyth.
Brent Drost won man of the match
for his good effort and defensive
playing during the game.
A few hours later the Renegades
played the Windsor Devils.
The Devils were able to slip three
goals into the net in the first period.
In the second Sturzenegger scored
for his team with another assist from
Salverda.
The final score of 3-1 for the
Devils doesn’t show that this match
was well played, making it an
extremely close game.
Radford won man of the match for
his excellent efforts at the
tournament.
This loss signalled an end to the
tourney for Blyth, placing them in
fifth place overall. Coaches Jenn
Miltenberg and Sean Bechtel were
very impressed with the entire
team’s performance both on and off
the ice.
