The Brussels Atom Reps had a
busy week playing three games.
First, they hosted Goderich last
Wednesday night, Nov. 19. There
was no score in the first period. Nic
Zwep was able to net the first late in
the second, assisted by Dawson
Peachey and Delayna Smith.
Goderich was able to tie it up less
than a minute later.
Shortly after, Dawson Peachey
scored one from behind the
Goderich net, assisted by Logan
Kellington. It ricocheted off of the
back of the goalie’s pads for
Brussels to take a 2-1 lead.
Not wasting any time in the third
period, Kellington took the puck
right from the face off, dodging
around the Goderich players, to put
it in the net, giving Brussels a 3-1
lead. Midway through the third,
Connor Bridge “bellied” right in
front of the net, sliding the shot
away from the Brussels net. Shortly
after, Christopher Van Veen scored
his first of the season with an assist
from Kellington.
The team took 14 shots on net,
skating away with a 4-2 win. Goalie
Derrick Waechter made 22 saves.
On Friday night, the Reps
travelled to Wallace. It was not an
easy game. It was an incredible
effort, with the co-operation of the
entire team, to keep the loss as low
as it was.
Waechter made 18 saves. There
were also 18 shots made at the other
end. Again, there was strong defence
and great team work shown
throughout the game.
The lone goal was scored by
Austin Johnston, assisted by
Kellington and Peachey.
Riding high on its undefeated
streak the Blyth Atom Local League
strode into Monkton for their first
road game.
The first period started slowly.
Both teams went back and forth with
short shifts to see how well the other
team handled the puck, pressure and
to test the goalies.
After a scoreless first period the
next one began with a hooking
penalty for the opposition putting
Blyth on the powerplay. They
attacked from every direction firing
multiple shots from the point at the
Monkton goalie. Players hopped on
every rebound they could but still
could not find the back of the net.
Shortly after the end of the
powerplay a scramble in the corner
saw Brett Glousher fire a crisp pass
to the point to an awaiting Craig
Raynard. Owen Andrews parked
himself in front of the net and
Raynard blasted a wrist shot towards
the net. The screen was perfect as
the shot bulged the twine to put
Blyth up 1-0. Again the defence
combo of Curtis Weber and Raynard
combined to crack the code. Colton
Rodger drew the puck back to
Raynard who slipped a pass to
Weber for a blast on net. The
rebound came out to Andrews in
perfect position at the side of the net
and he pounded home the puck to
set Blyth at 2-0.
Monkton only got one more shot
on goalie Franklin Marshall to end
the second period.
The passing was tremendous in
the third period.
The third period was long and
tiring but the team refused to take an
easy stride until they heard the final
buzzer and had sealed the victory.
The Blyth PeeWee Local League
Bulldogs continued on their winning
streak with a hard-fought game
against a strong Minto team.
The Bulldogs applied pressure
from the start of the game, only to be
turned away several times by the
Minto goalie. About the 10:00
minute mark, Dylan Bromley beat
the goalie with a shot to take the
lead, helpers went to Josh Van Soest
and Kyle Pollard. At the 12- minute
mark Blyth’s Van Soest increased
the lead to two with an assist from
Pollard.
Minto then stole in on a
breakaway to beat goalie Dustin
Treble, high above the glove, to end
the first at 2-1.
The second period saw the teams
exchange goals with Blyth’s being
scored by Van Soest with an assist
from Ryan Plunkett.
The third period saw several
chances for both teams, and Pollard
netted his first of the night off a pass
from Curtis Raynard.
Minto responded with two of their
own to tie the game.
Blyth played hard and Van Soest
scored his third of the night to take
the lead with two minutes
remaining.
Blyth played hard and Van Soest
scored his third of the night to take
the lead with two minutes
remaining. Blyth hung on to the one-
goal lead and took the 5-4 victory.
Monday night Listowel ended the
Bulldogs’ streak.
Blyth came out playing a strong
game, opening the scoring with a
goal by VanSoest and a helper from
Bromley. The Bulldogs increased
the lead to two with Trystan Weber
scoring on a pass from Kyle Pollard.
Listowel scored on Treble to end
the first at 2-1.
Blyth continued its strong play in
the second with several scoring
chances but couldn’t get any more
past the Listowel goaltender.
Listowel scored late in the period
to tie it.
Heading into the third, Blyth once
again missed on some chances, and
Listowel capitalized on a couple of
their own to take a 4-2 lead.
Blyth pulled the goalie with a
minute and half left and Robbie
Gordon scored unassisted for the
Dogs.
With 50 seconds to go, and an
extra attacker on the ice, Blyth
created several more goalcrease
attempts at shoving the puck in the
net, only to run out of time on the
clock before the feat was
accomplished.
Listowel won 4-3.
Big loss
It was Minor Hockey Day in Brussels on Saturday, but the hometown focus didn’t help the local
Atom Rep squad as they posted a loss in their game against Goderich. Brussels managed one

Brussels PeeWee Reps played
Milverton.
The team almost all fit in one van
for the trip there, so they knew they
would have their work cut out for
them.
Wyatt Ducharme scored two.
Assists were by Reece McArter and
Luke McCutcheon.
Milverton scored but Mitch
Kellington put in a fast one with a
nice pass by Lexi Smith and Josh
Bridge. Colton Hastings scored his
first goal of the season with Hayden
Tenpas assisting.
Milverton got their last goal of the
night ending it at 4-2.
The Reps hosted Minto for
Hockey Day. There was lots of back-
and-forth action. The squad worked
hard but were unable to get any past
the goalie until Wyatt Ducharme
netted one. Jordyn Sholdice assisted.
Matt McNichol allowed only four
goals.

Brussels PeeWees win 4-2
The Brussels Atom Locals were
scheduled to play Ripley on
Saturday. Due to the weather, the
game was cancelled.
The kids enjoyed playing a game
of scrimmage amongst themselves.
The scrimmage game ended in a tie.
The coaches on the ice were kept
busy teaching offside and good
sportsmanship.
They next play against Milver-
ton.
