The Blyth PeeWee Local League
hosted their neighbours from
Wingham for the home opener of the
season.
Blyth’s Trystan Weber got his
team on the board early scoring
before the first minute of the game
was complete.
Wingham responded immediately
to tie the game at one.
Ten minutes later Blyth poured on
with goals from Dylan Bromley, a
second by Weber and another tap in
by Daymien Brak, to end the first at
a score of 4-1.
Blyth continued its strong play in
the second, with a high shot to the
top of the net by Kyle Pollard.
Weber completed his hattrick a few
minutes later. Blyth rounded out the
scoring in the third with goals by
Dallas Coultes and the fourth of the
night by Weber.
Assists in the game went to Josh
VanSoest and Brak with two apiece,
Ryan Plunkett, Brendan Hallahan,
Bromley, and Coultes. Strong play
in the net by starting goalie
Dustin Treble kept Blyth in the
game early on. Goalie, Dalton
Carey, came on in the third to finish
out the game.
A good strong effort all around by
the team completed this victory, said
coaches.
The PeeWee LL travelled to
Hensall Nov. 8 to take on the BCH
Ice Dogs.
Blyth’s Curtis Raynard opened the
scoring on the first shift of the game
with a pass from Dalton Richmond.
BCH tied it up early in the second.
Blyth’s Brendan Hallahan fired in
a shot to regain the lead with an
assist from Dylan Bromley.
Kyle Pollard put them up 3-1.
Josh VanSoest scored his first of
the afternoon with an assist going to
Trystan Weber.
Hard work, a nifty little spin and a
backhand shot gave VanSoest his
second of the game assisted from
Ryan Plunkett. VanSoest completed
his hattrick with another assist from
Weber.
Strong goaltending by Dalton
Carey turned away the few good
chances the BCH team had. It was a
solid victory with some strong
defence for the team.
PeeWee LLs win home opener
With just a few broomball
practices behind them, the Blyth
Bantam boys were ready to play
their first game of the season in
Seaforth Nov. 5.
Blyth came out strong and
seconds into the game, Hunter
Broda took the ball away from his
opponents and scored the first goal
of the season. Four minutes later,
winger Alex Sanders gained control
of the ball and shot the ball towards
the net. Newcomer Jeff Hallahan
picked it up and scored.
Blyth was ahead 2-0 at halftime.
The second period saw lots of
action from both sides, but neither
team was able to score a goal.
Blyth’s defensive lines did a great
job at stopping their opponents.
Bryce Glousher covered the net and
did a great job to earn a shutout.
Overtime is an important part of
the game and with a few minutes of
icetime left the teams met four on
four with no goalie to practise their
skills. Blyth dominated play. Broda
set up a shot. Derek deBoer scored a
goal. Wyatt Bearss stole the ball
from his opponents while in the
corner and scored another. Gerrit
Logtenberg assisted the final goal of
the night, scored by Scott Jefferson.
Blyth won 5-0.
Coaches Gord Stute and Darrell
Bergsma were pleased with the
skills and enthusiasm that the
players showed in their first game.
The CHSS Redmen junior boys
volleyball team recently hosted a
fun round-robin tournament against
the Hullett Central Public School
Hawks and the Blyth PS Bears.
The CHSS team has seven players
from Hullett and Blyth on their
playoff bound team this year so they
enjoyed playing against their former
schools. Brothers Jeff and Jamie
Plaetzer and Brent Drost are Hullett
alumni. One even had to play
against his own younger brother,
Zach.
Blyth boys Tyler Black, Kirby
Cook, Adam Cronin and Matt
Chalmers are all second-year
veterans on the high school
volleyball team and they did a great
job of helping make the Blyth
Public School team feel at home in
CHSS’s large gym.
Later in the tournament the
Redmen had a chance to play with
their former teams to help
encourage, coach and cheer on the
elementary players. There were
great plays made from both sides of
the net showing there are definitely
some future high school volleyball
players from both Hullett and Blyth.
The CHSS junior boys volleyball
team volunteered to referee and
scorekeep the games.
Mr. Denys and the student council
supplied prizes to all the elementary
volleyball players.
For many elementary players, this
was their first introduction to the
CHSS community, and although not
all of them will play on the high
school volleyball team, we hope that
their experience was the beginning
of a long and memorable
relationship with CHSS, said coach
Shane Taylor.

Brussels was the site of the Atom
girls game against Mount Forest on
Saturday, Nov. 8.
Mount Forest started out strong
not allowing the home team to clear
the puck from their end. However,
with just two minutes into the game,
Blyth-Brussels got their chance.
Morgan Howson got the rubber past
the Mount Forest netminder on an
assist from Faith Sebastian.
Blyth-Brussels continued to
pressure their opponent with another
goal before the first was over. Emma
Strome scored with an assist from
Sebastian.
Less than a minute into the
second, the girls hit the mark again,
this time with a goal from Tiffany
Dietner, assisted by Sydney Michie.
Before the second was over,
Mount Forest snuck one in.
Dietner scored an unassisted goal
to open in the third. Minutes later,
the girls increased the lead, this time
with an unassisted goal from
Kathryn Chalmers.
Mount Forest didn’t give up and
scored twice in the last frame.
Blyth-Brussels ended the game on
top, 5-3.
The three stars of this game were
Carlie Ducharme, Teresa Atkinson
and Shelby Higgins.

took on the Wingham Ironmen
squad at Blyth on Nov. 8.
The team put up a good fight but
came up short in the third period to
be edged 3-2 by the visitors.
It was a different story the next
night when the team hosted
Milverton. They put out a strong
effort scoring six and holding their
opponents to two to post one in the
victory column.
