BLYTH UNITED CHURCH
Greeting at Blyth United Church
on Sunday, Nov. 9, were Barb and
Terry Richmond. Ushering were
Brenda Brooks, Nicole Kerr andTerry Richmond. Guest organist wasNancy Park.Rev. Gary Clark drew everyone’sattention to the announcementsprinted in the bulletin. TerryRichmond thanked the congregationfor their help with the fall supper.UCW meeting on Nov. 27 will bea potluck dinner. Joan and LavernClark will show their pictures of
their trip this summer to Europe.
Everyone is welcome.
The Introit, sung by the choir,
Lord, Prepare Me to be a Sanctuary,
was followed by a tribute to the
soldiers who have lost their lives in
Afghanistan. Images of these
Canadian soldiers were projected on
the screen while Grant Sparling
played the violin.
The call to worship and the prayer
of approach were followed by the
gospel lesson from Luke 10: 25-37.
The children were asked to come
to the front and Rev. Clark asked
them what was laid out on the table
behind them. There were poppies
and a cross. Rev. Clark explained tothem why people wear the poppy. He said when people remembersomething sad it teaches them thatsomething important happened. Somany soldiers died so that Canadianscan live the way they do.Everyone said a prayer and sungthe hymn, All I Really Need. The children went downstairs fortheir time of fellowship.
The second scripture, Psalm 90
was sung as a hymn. Rev. Clark
reminded everyone that
Remembrance Day influences them
a great deal and in different ways.
Some had family who served in the
First and Second World Wars and the
Korean war and some have family
serving in Afghanistan.
He related stories of his own
personal views as his father was a
veteran. As a kid standing at the
cenotaph and looking around you
could see a thousand stories on the
veteran’s faces, he said. The
veterans spoke very little of their
experiences until just lately.
Jesus tells of the story of the GoodSamaritan and how this is like todaywhen people go to try and helprebuild countries that have been tornby war. Not every country caresabout human rights so others try toeducate them to see what adifference it makes. Jesus tellspeople to go and do the same as theGood Samaritan. The hymn, Faith of Our Fathers
was sung followed by the offering.
The choir favoured the
congregation with an anthem, The
The Centennial Hymn.
The prayers of the community was
followed by the singing of The
Lord’s Prayer and the last hymn,
Where Cross the Crowded Ways of
Life, the commissioning and
benediction and the choral blessing,
Go Now In Peace.
