HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Citizen, 2008-11-06, Page 12Cheyenne Abigail Peitz took herfirst step along her journey of faithwhen she was accepted into the faithcommunity at LondesboroughUnited Church on Sunday, Nov. 2.Cheyenne was presented for
baptism by her parents Jennifer Peitz
and Darrell Bergsma. Her baptism
was witnessed by a large
congregation of regular church
members and many relatives and
friends, all of whom will help
Cheyenne become a true follower of
Christ.
Assisting Rev. Pat Cook with the
sacrament were Carmen Drost and
Joan Goodall on behalf of the
session and the UCW respectively.
Before heading downstairs for
Sunday school the young of the
congregation gathered at the front to
get a closer view of the baptism.
The morning’s responsive reading
was Psalm 107, a psalm of praise for
God’s goodness.
The New Testament scripture was
read by Joan Goodall. In Matthew
23: 1-12 Jesus warns His followers
against the teachings of the Scribes
and Pharisees. In the passage Jesus
tells that these ‘teachers’ of Gods’
law did not necessarily obey these
laws.
Moreover they were more
concerned with the honour of their
position and getting the attention
they felt was due them. Christ
pointed out that the ornaments they
wore, fringes, etc. did not indicate
piety.Rev. Cook began her message byasking, In today’s world, how dopeople measure success? The thingsin life valued today are not what isneeded to show the model of Christ.
Faithfulness in love, service to God
and humbleness are the marks of
success in Christ’s eyes.
The Bible contains many lessons
for Christians on how to be humble,
faithful servants of God. Christians
are called to be humble servants
reaching out to others for the glory
of God. Their actions should be for
the glory of God and church
reminded Rev. Cook. Beware the
false humility of the Scribes and
Pharisees.
Next Sunday will be
Remembrance Sunday at
Londesborough United. The senior

The Sunday school is having a
family swim at the Vanastra pool on
Saturday, Nov. 15 from 4 - 5 p.m.
Everyone is invited to attend. Pizza
and refreshments will follow. Bring
a finger food for dessert.
Londesborough United Church
