The Brussels Atom Reps played
on home ice last Wednesday against
Howick.
Logan Kellington was the first to
light up the board, assisted by
Dawson Peachey. The second goal
for Brussels was scored by Wyatt
Machan, unassisted.
Howick netted one to make it 2-1.
Nic Zwep put one in, assisted by
Austin Johnston and Machan.
Near the end of the third, Connor
Bridge fired one from the blue line
to end the game 4-1 for Brussels.
This game saw a lot of great shots
and a lot of great defensive moves.
The play was very intense as the
puck went from end to end, both
teams scrambling to find the net.
Brussels made 33 shots on net
throughout the game, while goalie
Derrick Waechter made 21 saves.
Their second game of the week
was on Sunday in Monkton, against
Mitchell AE. It was a very tough
game. The local guys played very
well, both offensively and
defensively. The team made 32 shots
on net.
Scoring for Brussels were
Kellington, Zwep and Machan.
Assisting them were Machan,
Peachey with two and Dylan
McNeil. Strong on defence were
McNeil, Sean Mitchell, Kiaran Jared
and Connor Bridge.
Goalie Derrick Waechter made 22
saves.
Despite their best efforts, however
Brussels lost 8-3. Playing up from
the local team were Jared, Cody
Harding, Seth Nichol and Nathan
Armstrong.
The Reps next games are
Wednesday night in Monkton and
Saturday in Blyth.
The second game of the Oct. 24-26
weekend had a better outcome for
the Blyth Atom Reps, bringing home
a win against Mitchell.

Sunday’s game was Hunter Dale
with two goals. Assists went to
Brenden Howson with two, Brandon
Marshall and Dawson Coultes.

from Hunter Dale and Marshall.
Mitchell scored two goals in the
first to make the score 4-2.
The second period saw two goals
scored by Mitchell with Blyth
scoring three. Dale scored two.

Hubbard and Marshall. The last goal
for the period was scored by

The lone goal of the third for Blyth
was scored by Marshall, with
assistance from Howson and Dale.

The Blyth-Brussels Atom girls
hosted the Wallace-Howick team on
Sunday afternoon.
Halfway through the first, Sydney
Michie found the back of the net. An
assist was awarded to Kathryn
Chalmers.
Blyth-Brussels would keep the
pressure on with many more scoring
chances.
Early in the second, the girls went
ahead by two with an unassisted
goal from Chalmers.
Wallace-Howick kept the pressure
and on and early in the third snuck
one in.
Seven minutes later, the home
team scored again from a goal from
Sydney Wightman, assisted by
Tiffany Deitner. Strong goaltending
by Carlie Ducharme kept the
opposing teams chances at a
minimum.
The three stars of the game were
Tiffany Uyl and Chalmers for their
hard skating and Deitner for playing
her position.

Second time the charm
for Blyth Atom Reps
The Blyth junior broomball
season is underway and the recent
Blyth tournament was a great way to
start it off.
A committee of broomball parents
organized the second annual co-ed
tournament on Oct. 17 and 18 which
was held at the Blyth and Brussels
arenas. There were 17 teams entered
from Blyth, Listowel, Palmerston
and Mildmay. Since this was a co-ed
tournament anyone who wanted to
play could enter.
This tournament was a fundraiser
for broomball.
Blyth junior broomball has
enrolled over 150 youths from ages
six to 19, for PeeWee, Bantam,
Midget and Juvenile.
This year there are two Blyth co-
ed PeeWee teams with 20 players on
each, so having an Atom team for
the younger players might be in the
works for next season.
A tournament cannot be run
without the support of many people.
Each family was asked at
registration to help out. Some gave
money towards the food booth or
donated food, others volunteered
their time or donated to the silent
auction. Many high school students
earned their community student
hours helping with timekeeping or
the food booth.
The committee is pleased to report
that $2,800 was raised.
Many players had only been out to
one or two practices prior to the
tournament. So with every team
guaranteed three games, it was a
great way to get back into the
playing season.
There were several tie games that
went into overtime, showing that the
teams were evenly matched. It was
great to see so many parents,
siblings and grandparents coming
out to support and cheer on the
teams.
The winners of the tournament
were: Mildmay Hawk PeeWees,
Mildmay Bantams, and the Midget
and Juvenile division were both
from Blyth. The winning teams
received a black toque with A
champions, embroidered on the
front.
Next year the committee is
hosting the tournament in
November.
