Kayla Bishop won the Huron County Award, the Menzies Endowment Fund Award, presented to applicants who are graduates of Brussels Public School and have the highest average in 11 senior course that meet diploma or post-secondary admission requirements, The Big M Senior Letter Award as well as being an Ontario Scholar. Montina Hussey won the Teachers- Festival Liaison Council Scholarship, The Big M Senior Letter Award, the Queen Elizabeth II Aiming For The Top Scholarship as well as being an Ontario Scholar. Justine Vanderlei won the Pegg Memorial Award, the Student Council Award, the Big M Senior Letter Award as well as being an Ontario Scholar. Jenny MacDonald won the College and Apprenticeship Mathematics Proficiency Award, the Morris Ward Graduate Award, given to a student residing in Morris who has contributed to a positive school and community citizenship, the Queen Elizabeth II Aiming For The TopScholarship as well as being anOntario Scholar.Sophie Jefferson won the ABCDAward, the Bieman Award and theQueen Elizabeth II Aiming For The Top Scholarship. Sean Berry won the School Advisory Council Award, the Big M Senior Letter Award as well as being an Ontario Scholar. Adam Young won the Michelle Andrew Memorial Scholarship, the Jean McEwen Memorial Scholarship as well as being an Ontario Scholar. Cameron Chaffe won the Mustangs On The Move Award, the Big M Senior Letter Award as well as being an Ontario Scholar. Shane Gibson won the Healthy Active Living Education Award and the Brussels Community Development Trust Scholarship, presented to a graduate of Brussels Public School who exhibited good citizenship while a students at F.E. Madill Secondary School and has proceeded to further education in the technical field, either as an apprentice or at college. Sean Cook won the Mathematics for College Technology Proficiency Award as well as being an Ontario Scholar. Mary Beth VanVeen won the Drama Proficiency Award as well as being an Ontario Scholar. Esther Vander Sterre won the Music Proficiency Award as well as being an Ontario Scholar.J.D. Schiell won the GarnissFamily Award, presented to aBelgrave resident who has exhibitedgood school citizenship and hascontributed positively to the community through involvement in community activities as well as being an Ontario Scholar. Evan Lautenslager won the English Proficiency Award, the Mustangs On The Move Award as well as being an Ontario Scholar. Brad Haines won the Huron Perth Real Estate Board Award, the Masonic Lodge Memorial Bursary Fund Award as well as being an Ontario Scholar. Evie Horne won the Mustangs On The Move award and the Queen Elizabeth II Aiming For The Top Scholarship as well as being an Ontario Scholar. Brandon Kellington won the Mustangs On The Move Award as well as being an Ontario Scholar. Laura Top won the Jeanne Oldfield Memorial Arts Scholarship, presented to a student having high academic standing, a graduate of Brussels Public School or resident of Brussels who is proceeding to further education in Art, English or Music as well as being an Ontario Scholar. Margaret Vincent won the West Wawanosh Mutual Insurance Award as well as being an Ontario Scholar. Rachael Bell won the Big M Senior Letter Award and the Wingham Lions Club “We Serve” Citizenship Award. Ami Schimanski won the Michelle Andrew Memorial Scholarship, Johnathon McDowell won the Glen Hodgins Memorial Award, Jill Bridge won the Menzies Endowment Fund Award, Stacy McLellan won the Mustangs On The Move Award, Darby Alcorn won the School Council Senator and Student Senator Award Sean Cook won the Physics Proficiency Award, Drew Taylor won the Transportation Technology Proficiency Award, Megan Carter won the Madill Secondary School Teaching Staff Award and Kari Bell and William King were also on the Ontario Scholar list. Locals get Madill awards Well done Kali Alcorn of Brussels, now a second-year student at Niagara College was the proud recipient of the Beulah and Harry Christian, Margaret and Ernie Seager Bursary. The awards presentation was last week at the Aberfoyle Mill Restaurant. Only seven awards are presented each year to Ontario students in the horticultural-related studies from the Ontario Parks Association Foundation. Stuart Koch, OPAF selection committee chair presented Alcorn with her award as well as a one-year membership to the Ontario Parks Association. Alcorn is the daughter of Mary Ann Bernard and Jeff Thompson, and granddaughter of Howard and Joan Bernard. (Photo submitted) Central Huron Secondary School held its commencement ceremony on Oct. 10, honouring several local students. Among the winners were Kelly Stevenson who won the Norman Parks Garrett Memorial Scholarship, presented to a student from Blyth who will be pursuing post-secondary education. Stevenson plans on attending the Ontario College Of Art And Design. She also won the Senior Visual Arts Award and the 2008 Queen Elizabeth II Aiming For The Top Scholarship in addition to being an Ontario Scholar. Jillian Anderson won the Dr. Charles Toll Memorial Award, the Seaforth Veterinary Clinic Biology Award and the Pamela King Memorial Award. Andrea VanderVeen won the Ontario Co-operative Education Association Award, the 2008 Queen Elizabeth II Aiming For The Top Scholarship and the W.D. Fair Scholarship for General Proficiency for Grade 12. Caleb Ringgenberg won the West Wawanosh Mutual Insurance Company Award, the Norma Jeffrey Memorial Bursary and the Elizabeth Scott Bursary. Jenna Roy won the West Wawanosh Mutual Insurance Company Award, the 2008 Queen Elizabeth II Aiming For The Top Scholarship as well as being an Ontario Scholar. Jennifer Williamson won the Seaforth B.I.A. Award as well as being a Central Huron Scholar. Heather Schmidt won the Huron Federation Of Agriculture Bursary and the Usborne & Hibbert Mutual Fire Insurance Company Award. Stephanie Archambault, in addition to being an Ontario Scholar, won the Crime Stoppers’Award. Andrew VanVliet won the Geoff Banks Award For Personal Integrity as well as being a Central Huron Scholar. Karen Ball won the Huron Perth Real Estate Award and was also an Ontario Scholar. Bridget Blake won the Huron County Women’s Institute Education Award and was also an Ontario Scholar. Jessica Verwey won the United Communities Credit Union Community Involvement Award. Cassandra Banks won the Brian Hill Memorial Award. Nikki VanderVeen won the 2008 Queen Elizabeth II Aiming For The Top Scholarship. Nicholas Lubbers was a Central Huron Scholar. The Angela Konarski Memorial Award, given in honour of the late Hullett resident, was won this year by Jennie Hildebrand and Joel Kaastra. Several area students who are still attending Central Huron Secondary School were also honoured that night. Aaron Gross won the W.D. Fair Scholarship for General Proficiency and the Dr. Carolyn J. Wood Award. Jack Weiler won the Grade 9 French Award, the A.H. Carter Award and the Bartliff’s Bakery Award. Jasmine de Boer won the Grade 9 Art Award, Jack Weiler won the Grade 9 French Award and the Grade 9 Science Award, Tyler Black won the Grade 9 Geography Award and the Grade 9 Physical Education Award, Heather Gibson won the Grade 9 Music Award and the Grade 9 Physical Education Award. Chris Becker won the Grade 10 English Teachers’ Award and Randy Zwep won the Grade 10 History Award. Wedding Announcement Rose Luella Wood, daughter of Dave and Julie Wood of Wingham and Alan Thomas Paterson, son of Yvonne Paterson of Wellington, New Zealand, were married October 21st, 2008 at the Mayan Riviera, Mexico. Friends and family are invited to share with them the beginning of their new life together this Saturday, November 1st at 8 pm at the Blyth Community Centre. Wedding Announcement Kimberly Hulley and Michael Fisher were united in marriage on August 30th, 2008 at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Zurich. The bride is the daughter of Ian and Debbie Hulley and the groom is the son of Richard Fisher, Anne Ducharme and Deb Elliott, Ky Waddell. Kim and Mike honeymooned at a couples’ resort by Algonquin Park and are now residing in Zurich. Area students among award winners
