Tammy Freiburger, Wingham, led
the Saugeen Maitland Lightning
Midget AAs with five goals in two
road victories this weekend.
The wins move the Maitland
Midget AAs into first place in their
11-team West Division in the Lower
Lakes Female Hockey League.
Sunday afternoon, the Lightning
won 4-3 against Chatham Outlaws
with goals by Freiburger scoring
two, Victoria Bertrand, Port Elgin
and Chesley Draker, Listowel.
On Saturday they won 5-3 against
Windsor Wildcats. Freiburger netted
a hattrick, Bertrand and Belina
Hooper, Meaford finished the
scoring single tallies.
The girls will be in action this
weekend, Saturday, Nov. 1 at 3:30
against Sarnia Sting and Sunday,
Nov. 2 at 1 p.m. against London
Devilettes. Both games are being
played at the Howick arena.
Blyth PeeWee Reps ruled the rink
during their Oct. 22 game against
Howick and posted Blyth a 22-0
victory.
During the first period, Matt
VanWyk and Dustin Pennington
each scored four goals. Trystan
Weber and Mike Van Wyk each
scored twice while Curtis Raynard,
Spencer Stevenson and Ryan Nesbitt
also bulged the twine. Mike VanWyk
got four assists, Dustin Pennington
three assists and Stevenson, Arden
Coultes, Nesbitt, Raynard and
Connor Rodger each earned one.
The period ended with Blyth
having a 15-0 lead.
During the second period, Blyth
maintained the pressure with
Coultes scoring the first goal
assisted by the VanWyk brothers.
Mike VanWyk scored the next goal
assisted by Stevenson. Goal number
three was scored by Pennington with
assists going to Coultes and Nesbitt.
The final goal of the period went to
Nesbitt assisted by Weber.
The second period also brought
two penalties. Weber got a two-
minute penalty for elbowing while
the Howick team got a two-minute
penalty for tripping.
At the end of the second period
Blyth was up by 19 goals.
During the third period Blyth kept
the heat on scoring three more.
Goals were scored by Coultes,
assisted by Mike VanWyk. To finish
off Howick, Nesbitt and Mike
VanWyk scored unassisted goals.
Pennington took a two-minute
break for boarding.
Blyth managed to keep the play
out of their end for the majority of
the game only allowing two shots on
their net. Both shots were stopped by
goalie Dalton Carey.
Blyth played Zurich Oct. 27.
The first few minutes of the game
were a little tense with Zurich
controlling the puck. Then the Dogs
got their groove back and the game
took on a new tone. With 6:11 left in
the first period, Weber started the
scoring with an assist from Nesbitt.
Less then three minutes later, Blyth
scored again. This time it was Weber
getting the assist to Pennington"s
goal.
With only 2:02 left in the first
period, Wyatt Carey took a shot
from the point that went off a Zurich
stick and into the top corner of the
net.
The first period ended with Blyth
having a 3-0 lead.
In the second period, Blyth killed
a penalty then Coultes made a
beautiful pass to Michael VanWyk
who was waiting in front of Zurich's
net. He sent the puck deep into
Zurich's net bringing the score up to
4-0. As the clock ticked down Weber
thread the needle to Nesbitt who
passed the puck to Stevenson.
Stevenson had a zinger of a shot that
brought the game up to 5-0.
Period three was a little rougher as
both teams became more aggressive.
\Wyatt Carey and a Zurich player
took match penalties for roughing in
front of Blyth's net.
Still five on five, Blyth scored
their final goal of the game at 8:08.
Braydon Whitfield passed the puck
to Stevenson who bulged the
twine.
Then at 6:51 Zurich stole the shut-
out away from Blyth's goalie, Dalton
Carey, by chipping it between
Carey's pads.
The final score was 6-1 for the
Dogs.
The Atom Rep team travelled to
Elma Logan for the season opener
on Saturday, Oct. 25 at noon.
Elma Logan started the scoring in
the first period with two goals
before Blyth got on the scoreboard.
The first goal of the regular season
was scored by Brenden Howson.
Assisting him were Hunter Dale and
Brandon Marshall.
The second period saw no action
on the scoreboard by either team.
In the third Elma Logan scored
two goals making the score 4-1.
Blyth’s Colton Rodgers scored the
second and final goal for Blyth with
assistance from Drew Bromley and
Dawson Coultes.
The final score was not in Blyth’s
favour at 4-2.
The second game of the weekend
saw the Atom Reps heading to
Mitchell on Sunday, Oct. 26.
The Atom Reps were down by two
goals early in the game. The boys
got a slow start, but once they picked
up the pace they never stopped.
Scoring the first two goals in the
first for Blyth was Dale with assists
going to Coultes, Howson with two
and Marshall. Two more goals were
scored in the first period one by
Rodgers with assistance from
Bromley and Owen Weber.
The second goal was scored by
Howson assisting was Dale and
Marshall.
Mitchell scored two more goals in
the second, but Blyth fought hard
and came back with three. They
were scored by Dale with two,
assisted by Jordan Hubbard,
Marshall and Howson. The final
goal of the second period was scored
by Bromley unassisted.
In the third, Mitchell came back
with two more goals. Blyth’s only
goal of the period was scored by
Marshall. Assisting were Howson
and Dale.
Blyth celebrated their first victory
of the year.

It was a close one for the Blyth Midget hockey team as they
hosted Milverton in recent action and skated away with a 1-
