The Blyth PeeWee broomball
team started the year off in the
Brussels broomball tournament.
Blyth came up against Mildmay
Red in their first game.
The Blyth team took a while to get
going and Brennan Kolkman started
the scoring with a goal from a
breakaway. Kolkman scored his
second goal with an assist from
Kaitlin Bos. Bos netted one of her
own with an assists going to Laura
Souch and Carlene Bremner.
Blyth won 3-1.
Blyth's second game was against
Mildmay Green. Blyth started the
game in complete control and
Kolkman scored the first goal with
Brooke Bos assisting.
Then Mildmay got going and it
turned into a wild match of end-to
end-action. Jordan Deboer kept
Mildmay off the scoreboard with
some great saves but in the final
minutes Mildmay scored on a
breakaway to tie the game.
Overtime was the same wild
action and Mildmay finally scored to
take the victory.
This put Blyth in the consolation
round against Palmerston.
Blyth had their game together by
now and had an easy time with
Palmerston.
Kolkman scored first drilling the
ball into the net from the point with
Neil Forbes assisting. Souch and
Kolkman both scored to give Blyth
the victory.
It was an exciting time at the
Cranbrook Hall on Friday night
with 8 1/2 tables at play. It was
hosted by Mary Craig, Neil Hatt and
Edna McLellan.
The travelling lone hand was won
by Helen Cullen. Share-the-wealth
winners were: Leslie Knight and
Joyce Alexander.
Other winners were: high lady,
Helen Dobson; low lady, Lorna
Cummins; ladies’ lone hands, Beryl
Smith, Mary Craig, Joyce
Alexander,Viola Adams, Judy Hahn
and Eileen Mann; high man, Lloyd
Smith; low man, Neil Hatt; men’s
lone hands, Stewart Steiss.
Lucky tally winners were:
Yvonne Knight, Bob Alexander,
Linda Minielly, Norm Dobson,
Myrna Burnett, Jim Minielly, Jean
Dewar, Joan Jacobs, Kathy Bridge,
Adrian Verstoep, Shirley Verstoep,
Dorothy Martin and Verna
Crawford.
The next euchre at the hall is on
Friday, Nov. 7 at 8 p.m.
Tough gals
Despite the cold rain that fell Monday morning, Grey
Central Public School held its soccer tournament which saw
schools from the north region of Huron County come to the
school to compete. Here the intermediate girls from
Brussels Public School took on the squad from Turnberry

Back to the brooms
The Blyth PeeWee broomball team played Mildmay in
tournament action in Brussels on Friday night and came
away with a 3-0 victory. The next day the two teams faced
off again with Mildmay posting the win this time, defeating

PeeWees play in tournament
The Saugeen Maitland Lightning
Bantam AA girls competed in the
Toronto Aeros Solid Goal
Tournament.
In their first game against the
Stoney Creek Sabres, the girls were
scoreless, with Stephanie Sluys
earning the shutout for the
Lightning.
In the second game, the Lightning
defeated the Oshawa Lady Generals
3-2, with Lightning goals scored by
Laura Irwin, two and Brooklyn
Irwin, with assists from Kelly
Gribbons, two and Marcie
Landman.
In their third and final game, a
strong Willowdale Red Wings team
defeated the Lightning by a score of
4-1, with the lone Lightning goal
scored by Brooklyn Irwin, assisted
by Shelsie Popp and Nicole
Marriage.
This ended the tournament for the
Season start
The Blyth broomball season is underway. On Saturday the
local Juveniles played the Blyth Lapp Dancers. The latter
