The Thanksgiving meeting of the Belgrave UCW Evening Group was held at the home of Nancy Folkard on Tuesday, Oct. 7. Sheila Nixon’s group was in charge of the meeting and she welcomed everyone and thanked Nancy for hosting the meeting. Mrs. Nixon read a poem, My Everyday Thanksgiving. Barbara Anderson opened the worship with a call to worship on Thanksgiving and read the poem Look to This Day. This was followed by prayer. Muriel Coultes read Psalm 95, after which the hymn Come Ye Thankful People Come was sung. Barbara and Muriel then read the meditation and announced the hymn, Now Thank We All Our God. The offering was received and the worship closed with prayer. The minutes were read and approved and the roll call was answered by, Something Unusual To Be Thankful For. Mrs. Coultes gave the treasurer’s report and Pat Hunking reported she had sent 13 cards. It was decided to give $300 to the church’s Food Grains Project. The Fall H-P Presbyterial Rally was announced for Oct. 21 with Bruce and Margaret Whitmore speaking. Mrs. Nixon talked about some interesting articles she had found in the magazine Our Canada, as well as several items from The Observer. The article she read, I’m Giving Church Another Chance was discussed and similarities were mentioned about churches in our own area. She closed the program with an article on Thanksgiving. The benediction was said and grace was sung. A social time was enjoyed after a tour of Nancy’s new home. Belgravehostsshoot Belgrave UCW holds Thanksgiving meet There were eight tables of shoot in play at the Community Centre on Friday, Oct. 10. The winners were: high pink card, Mary McIntosh; second high pink card, Jim Coultes; most shoots, Lois Chamney; high white card, Lloyd Appleby; second high white card, Bev Hayden; most shoots, Jack Taylor. The next shoot is Friday, Oct. 24 at 1:30 p.m. Fire safety Wingham fire chief Harley Gaunt paid a visit to the Grade 4 students at East Wawanosh Public School last week to go over some fire safety tips with them on Fire Prevention Week. A reception in the church auditorium followed with a delicious meal and a get-together at the bride and groom’s home in Hamilton afterwards. Those who attended the wedding from this area were Gwen MacLean, mother of the bride, Jim and Mary Hunter, grandparents of the bride, Glen Hunter, Chris and Nicole Casemore, Harold and Nancy Jardin and Ken and Linda Bird. Travelling from Alberta were Joyce and Keith VanCamp and Chanda Casemore. The community extends congratulations and best wishes to Marilyn and Ben. Belgrave Variety held its official grand opening on Saturday, Oct. 4. The celebration was arranged by the new owners, Becky and Dave Bartman. They recently purchased the store and took ownership on Sept. 21. The grand opening was enjoyed by many from the community. Becky and Dave were very pleased with the turnout. Complimentary cookies, breads and coffee were offered to the customers that day, along with a ballot for door prizes. The winners of the draw were Ruth Olson, Muriel Coultes, Mary Forrest, and Janice Wright. The community extends congratulations to Becky and Dave and wish them all much success in their new business as owners of the Belgrave Variety. Ha ha ha The Foundations Of Education program made a stop in Belgrave last week to make a presentation to the Grade 4/5 students at East Wawanosh Public School. The workshop was called The Red Nose Knows! It’s a workshop that brings laughter and discovery into the classroom, with students wearing the red nose so they can see each other through fresh and innocent eyes.
