The Huron Manufacturing Association (HMA) in conjunction with United Communities Credit Union and the County of Huron are partnering to present the third annual Manufacturing Excellence Awards in Goderich at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Nov. 5. The HMA and United Communities Credit Union are coming together for the second time to offer four $1,000 apprenticeship scholarships at these awards. The United Communities Credit Union and the HMA came together last year for a five-year partnership to establish a fund to support the awarding of annual apprenticeship scholarships. In collaboration with United Communities Credit Union the HMA will use the money raised from the Excellence Awards to fund the annual apprenticeship scholarship fund, held at the Heartland Credit Union, which will fund several apprenticeship scholarships annually. United Communities Credit Union has shown its support for this fund committing a total of $10,000 over five years. This scholarship fund, known as HMA/United Scholarship Fund, will award four $1,000 scholarships this year. As the fund grows larger more scholarships may be awarded. It is the intent for at least one scholarship to be awarded to a female applicant each year. The HMA intends for this fund to be an open for contributions from any donor. HMA chair, Chris Meier invited all HMA members to support apprenticeships in Huron County by making a charitable donation. “The HMA members understand that the labour force for manufacturing is shrinking in Huron County. Many skilled tradespeople are getting ready to retire. Apprenticeship is an important piece of the puzzle to help solve this labour shortage. I invite all our members to donate to this scholarship to ensure that the future labour force in manufacturing is strong.” The awards evening promises to be a great success. Entertainment this year will include performances by Noted CD regarding artists Melina Hussey and Sarah Koopmans. Inspired magician Neil McMillan will also be entertaining guests throughout the evening. For more information, or to book your ticket, visit www.huronmanufacturing.on.ca or call 519-524-8394, ext. 3.
