HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Citizen, 2008-10-09, Page 19By Rev. Dave WoodHuron Chapel EvangelicalMissionary Church, AuburnI have been remiss! I have been
chalking it up to old age but I think
it is actually a deeper and more
profound psychological impediment.
You see, I keep forgetting to write
my article for The Citizen and
noticed in retrospect, ever since I
have relocated to Wingham I have
been negligent. This is why I think it
is psychological because deep down
it must be that I miss Fran and Ann
so much I just couldn’t make myself
vulnerable to the pain theirmemories would invoke. Andmemories of Fran do bring pain.Or, much as I might hate to admit
it, I have just become forgetful. Like
most of you, I have focused on the
immediate concerns of my own life
and in this process have simply
forgotten the world around me. “I”
become the centre and the universe
simply revolves around me.
The word selfish might come into
play here but since I am not
comfortable with it I sure hate to
have to use it. But if the shoe fits…
In the Gospel of Luke in Chapter17 there is the account of Jesushealing 10 individuals who hadleprosy. It says they cried out with a
loud voice and begged the Master to
have pity on their plight in life. The
short of it is, Jesus did have pity on
them and told them to go show
themselves to the priests and as they
went to do this the Word says they
were cleansed of their disease.
Out of the 10, only one came back
to thank Jesus and this one was a
Samaritan, an outcast, despised by
the Jewish people. Ten got what they
wanted and only one came back tothank the Giver. This historical account remindsme of how selfish and self-centred I
can be. I am so blessed! I have a roof
over my head and abundance at the
table and yet instead of being
thankful for what I have, there is the
tendency to focus on what I don’t
have or truth be known, what I
want.
This Thanksgiving, remember
what you have, don’t run off with the
blessing and forget its origin.
Celebrate what has been given and
simply say thanks to the One whohas provided it all. THE CITIZEN, THURSDAY, OCTOBER 9, 2008. PAGE 19. From the Minister’s StudyPastor shares views on his forgetfulness

The Auburn and area community
wish to congratulate the Cowans on
their new addition. Ryan and Kayla
Cowan are excited with the arrival
of their little brother Dylan
Timothy. Proud parents are Tim and
Julie. Grandparents are Chris and
Barb Cowan, Denise Frederick and
Gary Frederick. Great-
grandmothers are Lois Wise and Vi
Cowan.
Auburn and community extend
their sympathy to the family of the
late Hazel Craig. Bill and Hazel
Craig lived in the village for many
years and owned and operated
Craig’s sawmill.
Another former Auburn-area
resident passed away last week.
Mildred Lawlor was married to Tom
who survives her. She was The
Citizen’s Auburn news
correspondent for a time.
They moved to Clinton a few
years ago.
Our sympathy goes out to the
Lawlor family at this time.
