Sightseeing
There was a nip in the air, but the skies were perfect for folks to come out and enjoy the
annual Fall Colour Tour at Wawanosh Nature Centre on Sunday afternoon. People could take
a wagon ride around the property to see the changing leaves, or opt to stroll the trails on their
own. (Vicky Bremner photo)
On Sunday, Oct. 5 Cathy andDoug Walker greeted worshippersand handed out the Service ofWorship at Knox United Church. The hymn-sing selections were ToShow By Touch and Word andBreathe On Me, Breath of God,
accompanied by Elizabeth Procter.
Melissa Snyders welcomed the
congregation. Happy birthday was
sung to Les Shaw and Don Dow.
Hattie Wightman, a sister to
Norman Wightman was a special
guest in the congregation. She is
from Calgary and was staying with
the Wightmans for three-week
holiday.
Ethan Campbell lit the Christ
candle. The call to worship was read
responsively and the Gathering
Prayer was said in unison.
The choir sang, Is This Not the
Land of Beulah? accompanied at the
piano by Elizabeth Procter.
After the singing of the children’shymn, Fairest Lord Jesus, thechildren sat in the front pew. Melissaasked them if they got gifts onspecial occasions. They replied withanswers such as Christmas, birthdays, earning a gift, etc. All
things in one’s life are special things.
Everything is a gift of God she s
aid.
Melissa’s message was entitled, In
the Land of Plenty. People have been
blessed to live in a land of plenty and
come to expect it, she said. “We need
to be thankful daily not just at
Thanksgiving.”
She said to give thanks to God and
all his blessings even when it seems
impossible. If people focus on what
they have rather than what they don’t
have, they will see how many gifts
they have from God. “Living in a
land of plenty, we have been given
the Bread of Life,” she said.
Ken and Ben Procter took up theoffering. Other hymns that weresung included, This Day God GivesMe and Touch the Earth Lightly. Theclosing hymn was Glorious Thingsof Thee Are Spoken. The choral benediction concluded
the morning worship service.
Bruce Whitmore will be
conducting the church service on
Oct. 12.
There will be a congregational
meeting on Oct. 19 after the church
service to discuss and vote on the
proposed donation of land to the
Women’s Institute.
One of the conditions of the
proposed sale of the WI Hall is that
the property be rezoned Residential.
The planning board requires at least50 feet of frontage for this rezoningto take place. To meet therequirement of 50' of frontage wouldrequire approximately 16 feet ofchurch property adjacent to the WIHall.
The board of trustees have met and
recommend that Knox United
Church donate the required amount
of property to the Women’s Institute
in order to facilitate the rezoning and
sale of the WI Hall provided that the
Women’s Institute assume all
expenses regarding the severance,
rezoning and transfer.
Consider this issue carefully and
plan to attend the meeting on Oct.
19.

Conservative
This election is about the kind of Canada we want. This
Conservative minority government has lowered taxes
- the GST, personal income taxes, and small business
taxes. We have invested in the safety of Canadians - at
our borders, with protections for children, and tough law-
and-order legislation. We have introduced a realistic plan
to cut greenhouse gases and protect our environment.
We have put dollars into reducing health care wait times
and training of more medical practitioners. If you believe
in a Canada that is economically strong, that makes safety a priority, and that
invests wisely in health, the environment and families, please vote on October 14.
Please vote Conservative.
A stronger, safer, better Canada.
