The choir favoured the
congregation with the anthem Bread
of Heaven, Wine of Heaven. The
Call to Worship and the Prayer of
Approach followed the first hymn,
Deep and Wide. with the Sunday
school children leading the actions.
Kelsey Kerr carried the lit candle
downstairs to Sunday school.
The Gospel lessons were from
Matthew 4: 18-22 and Mark 6: 30-
44 were followed by the hymn,
Break Now the Bread of Life.
Rev. Gary Clark’s message to the
congregation was Don’t invite Folks
Unless You Intend to Feed Them.
Rev. Clark started his message by
saying when they arrived in Blyth in
July they found the fridge and
cupboards were stocked with food.
What hospitality!
When Jesus called His disciples,
He didn’t find them in the
synagogues. He went to the seaside
to find them. Jesus asked them to
leave the work they knew and to
follow Him and He would make
them Fishers of Men.
Jesus and the disciples went into a
boat to cross the lake and find a
quiet place to rest. The people on
shore walked around the lake to hear
Jesus speak. The disciples asked
Jesus if they should send the people
away to find their own food but
Jesus was compassionate and told
His disciples to go out and find what
food they could. They came back
with five loaves of bread and two
fish that a little boy had.
Jesus took the food, blessed it. The
disciples gave them to the people
and when everyone was full there
were still 12 baskets of food
remaining.
If something is given in love and
hope, it will multiply, said Rev.
Clark.
The first three verses of the hymn,
Here, O My Lord We See You Face
to Face was followed by the
receiving of the offering and the
hymn, The Fruit of All Creation.
The children came back upstairs
to join the congregation for
communion. The Prayer of
Thanksgiving was followed by the
singing of The Lord’s Prayer. Those
serving communion were Fred
Meier, Mary Lou Stewart, Ollie
Craig, Jessica Sparling and Jon
Hakkers.
On Oct. 19, at the Thanksgiving
service, Sadie Chalmers will sing.
Oct. 26 is the evening service and
Rev. Clark’s covenanting service
and Nov. 9 the Lobb Family Singers
will sing.
