Marian Calder of Scarborough
was a guest for a few days at the
home of Betty Irwin.
On Friday, Sept. 12 there were 7
1/2 tables of shoot in play at the
Community Centre.
The winners were: high pink card,
Helen Casemore; second high pink
card, Lillian Appleby; most shoots,
Freda Scott; high white card, Bev
Hayden; second high white card,
Joann MacDonald; most shoots,
Ross Taylor.
The next shoot is Friday, Sept. 26
at 1:30 p.m.
Knox service celebrates dancingBruce Whitmore and Ron Taylorgreeted worshippers at Knox UnitedChurch on Sunday, Sept. 14.He extended congratulations andbest wishes to Blair and ShannonBieman on the celebration of theirwedding anniversary.
The call to worship was read in
unison followed by the singing of
the hymn, I Danced in the Morning.
The scripture Psalm 150 was read
responsively. Casandra Carter lit the
Christ Candle, assisted by Mr.
Whitmore.
Ross and Wilma Higgins, Les and
Donna Shaw, Norman and Florence
Wightman, Carol Ducharme and Del
Nixon worshipped in dance.
The children’s hymn was, What a
Friend We Have in Jesus. For
children’s time Bruce showed the
prayer shawl that had been given to
Knox United from the Oshawa
United Church.
There are different occasions
when a person might dance, Mr.
Whitmore said. Dancing is
mentioned 47 times in the Bible.
The people then would have danced
when Jesus rose from the dead and
when water was turned into wine.
In Mozambique every Sunday
they celebrate worship with dancing.
The scripture lessons were from
Samuel 6: 1-2, 5, 12-15 and
Matthew 11: 16-17. The
congregation sang, I Cannot Dance,
and Love.
Mr. Whitmore’s message was
entitled G-U-I-Dance. Dancing with
God. God said, follow me and he
will lead us. Doing God’s will is a
lot like dancing, he said.
Dance is a beautiful symbol of the
word life. People are fulfilling God’splan when they dance. A greatcreativity of God is dancing. Godcan lead people through all theseason of life through dance.Ken Procter and Doug Walkertook up the offering. The Prayer of
Dedication was read in unison.
The dancers entertained with, I’ll
Leave This World Loving You and’Til Someone Loves You.The Prayers of the People wasread in unison and the Assurance ofPardon responsively.The closing hymn, Joyful, JoyfulWe Adore You, concluded the
morning worship service.
The hymns were accompanied by
pianist Elizabeth Procter.Knox anniversary service onSunday, Sept. 21 will be conductedby Rev. Mary Jane Hobden withlunch to follow. Bring sandwiches orsquares.
