With two names on the ballot for
Huron County warden next term,
councillors will be making the
decision by secret ballot.
The recommendation to change to
a secret ballot was approved at the
Sept. 3 meeting of county council.
In July South Huron councillor
George Robertson requested a report
on changing the procedural bylaw to
change the voting process from open
recorded vote to secret ballot. At that
time there were comments made in
favour of both methods.
At the Aug. 12 committee of the
whole, the report was presented by
chief administrative officer Larry
Adams. His opinion, he said, based
on the information, was the the
procedural bylaw for the eleciton
of the head of an upper-tier
municipality may be amended
in any year to permit a secret
ballot.
At the committee meeting a
motion was made to change to a
secret ballot. A recorded vote was
requested.
The motion passed 10-7. Three
councillors were absent.
The recommendation passed with
no debate, though not unanimously,
at council.
