The Citizen, 2008-09-04, Page 14BLAKE. In loving memory of Bob
Blake “Bennie” who died as the
result of an accident Sept. 5, 2007.
Perhaps it’s not so much the years of
life that count, as life in the years.
You lived well my love.
You greeted each new day with
enthusiasm,
You loved without reserve.
You laughed heartily, and worked
diligently.
How blessed we are for being an
important part of that living.
Our grief, insurmountable.
Our love for you everlasting.
We honour you always.
We cradle you in our hearts.
– Love, Clara, Kerry, Christopher
and Devin. 35-1

BLAKE. In loving memory of a dear
son, brother and uncle, Bob Blake
who passed away suddenly
September 5, 2007.
No one heard the footsteps,
Of angels drawing near,
Who took from earth to heaven,
The one we loved so dear.
The sorrow we have beared,
Of all the fondest memories,
That are only ours to share.
As whispers come from Heaven,
Speaking to our hearts,
We feel the warmth forever,
Embraced within your heart.
A part of our family we can never
replace.
– Remembered with love, Mom,
Dad, Gerald, Anne, Jim, Murray,
Phil, Joyce, Bruce, Julie and
families. 35-1p

Local people can relive fond
memories of dance-hall days while
they support programs to protect
children this year as the Annual
Teddy Bear Dream Auction
celebrates its 20th anniversary with
a big-band nod to the exciting days
(and nights) of the Goderich
Pavilion.
The Saturday, Oct. 4 gala event at
the Knights of Columbus Hall in
Goderich has an added special
feature this year with a three-course
dinner, especially for the 20th
anniversary installment. This year
features the well-renowned Stardust
Big Band from Southampton, as
well as a professional dance
demonstration from Casablanca
Dance Studio in addition to the
annual silent and live auctions.
The 20th anniversary auction to
support Rural Response for Healthy
Children has been billed as Meet Me
at The Pav, recalling a famous local
phrase uttered by many a young
music lover over the lakeside dance
hall’s decades of history. Meet me at
The Pav!, was the refrain that
promised excitement, beautiful
music, dancing close and perhaps
the chance of romance with a walk
home under the stars listening to the
sound of the waves.
“We wanted the 20th Anniversary
Dream Auction to be something
extremely special and the dinner and
Pavilion Dance Hall theme promise
to make this year’s event
memorable,” said Sarah Bender, co-
chair of the Teddy Bear Dream
Auction Committee. “We hope
people will relive fond memories of
their past and make great new
memories with wonderful live
music, a three course dinner, dance
demonstrations and silent and live
auctions of one-of-a-kind dream
packages.”
Tickets for the entire evening are
$50 per person including the meal
and entertainment and available at
Ernie King Music in Goderich and
Wingham, Music in Sebringville,
Fincher’s in Kincardine and
Crossroads in Clinton. Or call Rural
Response for Healthy Children at
519-482-8777 or toll-free 1-800-
479-0716 to book tickets. Consider
booking a whole table of eight
tickets and come as a group.
The Annual Teddy Bear Dream
Auction is the major fundraising
event of Rural Response for Healthy
Children supporting successful local
programs that protect children and
support families, such as T.H.E.
Bus, KINDEROO - School
Readiness Program, SNAP Personal
Safety Education for Children with
Disabilities, Kids On the Block,
Parent Support/Education
programming and Father
Involvement.
“This special 20th anniversary
Annual Teddy Bear Dream Auction
is a chance to revisit great memories
and support programs to reduce
child abuse and neglect and nurture
children and families,” said Dorothy
Beuermann, program services
manager with Rural Response for
Healthy Children. More information
on the Teddy Bear Dream Auction is
available online at
www.teddybeardreamauction.ca.
Peter Young’s book, Lake Huron’s
Summer Dance Pavilions: Sand,
Surf and Music recalls that
“overlooking the blue water of Lake
Huron at Goderich, The Goderich
Pavilion has long been the favourite
dance spot with residents and
visitors to ‘The Prettiest Town in
Canada.’”
The Goderich lakeside dance hall
created memories for music lovers
from 1920 to 1972. “When you
told somebody See You at the Pav,
they knew where you’d be,” wrote
Young.
Goderich’s dance hall days may
have become nostalgic memories
from the 1970s to today – but in
2008, for one night only, you can
say Meet Me at the Pav once again.

The County of Huron is taking
time again this year to say thank you
to the county’s emergency workers
and has declared a Day of
Recognition for Emergency
Workers on Sunday, Sept. 7.
The County of Huron started the
annual Appreciation and
Recognition Day for Emergency
Workers in recognition of the Sept.
11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
The county wants to show
appreciation for the firefighters,
police, ambulance and other
emergency workers in the
county.
The county has asked all local
churches to participate by including
recognition of the day in their
service on Sept. 7. Last year many
churches spent time in their service
recognizing local emergency
workers.
The county is hoping everyone
will take time on Sept. 7 to thank
their local emergency workers.
