Who flipped the switch off? One
day it was summer with a little rain
and a little sun but it was summer!
Then all of a sudden the air changed,
followed by that sinking feel that
yes, really summer is over. There
was no consideration for the fact that
fall doesn’t begin until mid-
September. Oh my summer is over.
Lake Huron, Alliston and
Algonquin were some of the spots
used for the Labour Day camping
trips. For some it’s the last weekend
of camping, so hopefully it’s good.
Management, the board and staff
at the Blyth Festival should give
themselves a standing ovation for
106 new Canadian plays off the
boards and each year just a little
better. We are proud to have you as
neighbours and feel very fortunate
to have this calibre of theatre so
close.
So heigh ho, heigh ho, it’s off to
school we go!
Get your fair things ready, it’s just
around the calendar.
Bye now, Betty G.W.
Hats off!
Self-proclaimed hat enthusiast Jessica Mann of the North Huron Museum was in Brussels last
week presenting Hats Of Yesteryear to the residents of Huronlea Home for the Aged. The
presentation was a big hit, sparking old memories and many historic stories. Back left: Harold

The week has been quiet at the
Brussels Legion with just the
executive meeting being held on
Tuesday evening, Aug. 26.
There were seven Comrades
present to carry on the business of
the Branch. Many of the committees
are quiet over the summer with only
a few having reports to give. The
Provincial Service Officer Randy
Groundwater will be in the area
between Sept. 28 and Oct. 4, so
anyone wishing a meeting with him
should contact the Branch at 519-
887-6562 and leave a message by
Sept. 12.
The executive voted to carry on
with the early bird membership
prize program this year as well as
keeping the dues at the same rates.
The early bird rates are $45 from
now until Nov. 30 with the prize of
free membership the following year
being drawn Sept. 30, Oct. 31 and
Nov. 30. The dues will rise to $50 on
Dec. 1.
An added extra this year is, if any
Comrade in good standing sponsors
a new member or members, the
Comrade will receive a $5 rebate per
new member. The debate will be
paid after Jan. 1.
The Branch needs to build its
membership, so let’s strive for every
Comrade to recruit a new member
for the Branch in 2009.
Elimination draw tickets are out
there, so don’t forget to pick yours
up before the early bird draw Sept.
6.
Our get-well wishes go out to
Lloyd Glanville as he is in hospital
at time of writing.

HOW DOES ASTHMA AFFECT PEOPLE?
• Sixty per cent of individuals with asthma have symptoms that are poorly
controlled, which can often restrict their daily activities
• Thirty-nine per cent of individuals report limitation in their physical
activity due to asthma
• Twenty per cent report absenteeism from school, work or social
engagements due to asthma
• In Canada, there are approximately 10 deaths from asthma per week;
however, it is estimated that more than 80 per cent of asthma deaths can
be prevented with proper asthma education and management
