Details, details, details are getting the final touches this week as the last days of preparation for Funfest ’08 take shape. You need to check your dancing shoes, your sports equipment and your duck ticket. Get your act together now so you’ll hit all your favourite spots on the weekend. See you at Funfest. Bye now, Betty G.W. By Jo-Ann McDonald It was a busy weekend with events both at and away from the Brussels Legion Branch. On Friday evening, the fish fry crew was off to the Seaforth Agriculture Society. They had nearly 250 folks arrive to enjoy the fish dinner. The crew of the night included Lloyd, Mabel, Lisa Glanville, Anne Pelletier, Rick and Jo-Ann McDonald. On Saturday, a wedding was held at the Branch. Larry Glousher and Lisa Laporte were married at 3 p.m. and celebrated their nuptials attended by over 80 family and friends with a dinner and dance. The hall was beautifully decorated for the day and even the heat couldn’t ruin things. Congratulations to the happy couple. Helping out on Saturday were three young people earning their community service hours. Thanks to Marlene Dale, Brianne deDekker and Julia Mason for their help with setup and cleanup. We send out special birthday wishes to Comrade George Adams who is celebrating his 80th birthday. Comrade George is a great help around the Branch doing odd jobs, woodwork projects and repairs and helps out with many fish frys. It’s Funfest this weekend and we hope everyone has a great time. Don’t forget to drop into the Legion food booth at the Tigers fastball tournament. There are also cards and a dance on Saturday, so it’s a full weekend for the Branch. At the Branch Busy weekend ahead Piping hot Members of the Brussels Legion Pipe Band took their show on the road, or sidewalk, rather, last Wednesday to help attract attention to the village’s main street. From left: Don Martin, Jamie Mitchell, Bessie Johnston, Don Chesher and Alan Ghent. Every Wednesday local merchants are bringing their wares outside for a sidewalk sale. Each week is different.
