by Megan Campbell.

The Blyth Destroyers played yet
another soccer game in Goderich in
the final game of the regular season,
on July 9.
Goderich Blue was first to get on
the scoreboard after keeper Kurtis
Kolkman made the first save and
punched the ball away from the net,
only to have a Goderich player gain
control of the ball and score.
Blyth dug in their heels and wasn’t
long in scoring. The halfbacks
worked the ball towards the
Goderich net. Goderich intercepted
the play, but Brent Drost stole the
ball away from a Goderich player
and scored. JanPaul VanDorp
crossed the ball towards the net from
the corner of the field. Drost picked
up the ball and scored his second
goal of the night.
Goderich scored to narrow the
gap. The final goal of the first half
was scored by Blyth’s VanDorp with
the assist awarded to Drost.
Greg Roetcisoender covered the
net for the Destroyers in the second
half of the game. He only allowed
one goal to slip past him into the
corner of the net. The Destroyers
halfback Brendon Boven earned an
assist after kicking the ball towards
the Goderich net. Austin Sjaarda
took the ball away from his
opponents and scored. Sjaarda
scored again, but unfortunately the
ref called the goal off and Blyth won
the match with a narrow score of 4-
3.
It was a close game and both
teams will have to play a strong
game to come on top when they meet
again during the year-end
tournament to be held July 14-18.The Palmerston Marlin Midget

The Blyth U-14 Terminators
soccer team played Brussels for the
second week in a row on July 10 at
the Sparling’s field in Blyth.
Starting things off for the locals,
Greg Roetcisoender took a corner
kick for Blyth and placed the ball
right in front of the net. JanPaul
VanDorp headed the ball into the
net for a beautiful goal.
In the second half, Joel Pizzati
earned an assist after crossing the
ball towards the net from the corner.
deBoer picked up the ball and
scored. Jan Paul VanDorp took the
ball away from his opponents and
took advantage to score his second
goal of the night. Kody Tachauer
was able to shoot the ball at the
Brussels net, the ball rebounded off
the goalie and Leendert VanDorp
came in and scored for his team.
Marc Dery shot the ball towards the
net and deBoer finished off the play
and scored his second goal of the
night. The VanDorp twins assisted
the final goal of the night as
Roetcisoender shot the ball into the
net for his second goal of the night.
Keepers Wyatt Bearss and Hunter
Broda shared goaltending duties for
the night and did a great job
covering the net for their team.
The Terminators played a much
stronger second half in this soccer
match, digging harder for the ball
and demonstrating more confident
ball control skills.
The final score was 7-1 for Blyth.
On the run
