Chief building official Steve Fortier agreed that it would be up to his discretion to judge if the two units appeared to be one house. But councillor Mark Beaven called for less interference. “If I want to be able to build a god- awful house, why shouldn’t I?” he wondered. “We should try to stay out of people’s lives as much as possible.” Council’s slight change in wording emphasized that the two joined houses were to appear as if they were one house. Councillors also agreed to a housekeeping amendment that would allow a Lower Town couple to build a separate garage on a corner lot. BLYTH UNITED CHURCH Greeting at Blyth United Church on Sunday, July 13 were Ollie and Bodie Craig. Ushering were Nancy Hakkers, Terry Richmond and Lois van Vliet. Margaret Kai was music director. The choir sang It’s a Song of Praise for the Makers during the processional. Guest speaker David Onn welcomed everyone to church. He introduced Rev. Gary Clark who was a member of the choir for that day. The call to worship was followed by the first hymn, Jesus Love Me. The choir sang two anthems,What Does The Lord Require of You? and Make a Joyful Noise – Psalm 100. Lorna Fraser told the children’s story. The next hymn was, All Things Bright and Beautiful. The scripture reading, Ephesians 5:19-20 was read by Ollie Craig and followed by the hymn, Let All Things Now Living. David’s message to the adults was, The Church as Community. God loves a community. As church attendance declines it is hard to keep the churches going. God’s message should be shared, Where two or three are gathered together, I am there. There has been conflict all through history and people should work together to end these conflicts. Some of these conflicts can be removed by faith in God. God is showing people the way to work together to keep their church and community going. With the love and support of each other, they will win the battles. David challenged people to say, I am a member of Blyth United Church, a community church. While the offering was received Grant Sparling and Cappy Onn played a violin duet. The dedication prayer was followed with the choir singing, Eagles Wings with Cheryl Cronin singing the solo parts. The Lord’s Prayer was repeated in unison. Hanging around Rachel Cluney from Aurora, who was in Blyth to visit her aunt and see the participants in the dog show, spent a sunny summer day at the playground. She took a second to strike a pose on the jungle gym.
