HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Citizen, 2008-07-10, Page 27A request that the county solicitorbe retained to represent theplanning, agriculture and publicworks committee at an Ontario
Municipal Board hearing got mixed
feelings from county councillors at
the July 2 meeting.
At issue is the committee’s
approval of a consent application for
property in Bluewater’s Stanley
West Ward. Bluewater and the
county planning department had
denied the consent due to minimum
distance separation deficiencies.
The planning committee has
delegated authority on consents so
council’s only option when the issue
came before them last month was to
appeal. A recorded vote ended in a
split, so there would be no appeal
from the county.
However, at their June 9 meeting,Bluewater councillors passed amotion to appeal. With this recommendation now,Bluewater councillor Jim Fergussonwondered if the planningdepartment would still be making
the recommendation to deny.
Director of planning Scott Tousaw
said that would be the case
“I find it odd,” said Fergusson. I
don’t know why the county is
paying when the committee went
against the planning department’s
recommendation.”
Tousaw, however, said that he felt
the motion should be ratified. “Quite
frankly, my position is that the
committee be represented by
council. If we walk away we risk
frustrating the applicant. The
primary purpose is to avoid having
costs awarded.”
The motion carried.

The Children’s Summer Drama Workshop participants performed in the lower hall of Blyth
Memorial Hall on Saturday. The junior play was the 3 Bears and Goldilocks Twins, while the
seniors presented Rainbow Connection, a musical. Dreams do come true as some youngsters
hop on a magical train that would take them to the end of the rainbow where they find a
wishing star. (Vicky Bremner photo)
