on July 1, 2008 at his home. He was
in his 93rd year.
The son of the late Gordon and
Ella (Youngblut) Snell of East
Wawanosh, Mr. Snell was born on
Aug. 24, 1915.
Ernest will be remembered as a
businessman in the Westfield
community having begun many
farm and agribusiness ventures in
his lifetime. He was also active in
local politics, having served on East
Wawanosh and Huron County
councils.
Mr. Snell and his family were also
strong supporters of Westfield
Fellowship Church
Ernest began his career with the
purchase of a 100-acre farm in 1939
where he and his then-new bride
Anna (McDowell) Snell established
a chicken business in Westfield. The
business began with 100 leghorn
hens, but by 1944, had expanded to
a three-storey chicken house.
Between 1945 and 1946 the
Snells began a hatching business,
then began the feed business in
1949.
After Mr. Snell closed the chicken
business, the Snells began a farm
implement business, converting the
chicken building into a service shop
in 1957.
In 1960 Mr. Snell took his first
step into local politics, being
elected to East Wawanosh council
in 1961. In 1963 he began a first
term as reeve. Mr. Snell stepped
down from his position as reeve in1966, citing business reasons as thecause.Mr. Snell eventually returned to
local politics when he was re-
elected to reeve in 1985, 1988 and
again in 1991.
In 1987, Snell Investors Ltd., of
which Mr. Snell was the president,
purchased “the Humphrey
Subdivision” in Belgrave.
In 1988, the first of the 38
residential lots was sold.
Snell Feed and Supplies Ltd.
continued to operate after Ernest’s
retirement.
Mr. Snell was the loved husband
of Anna. He was dear father and
father-in-law of Ronald and Sandra
Snell of Delevan, New York;
Marvin Snell and Elaine Snell, both
of Westfield, Mary and Clark
Forrest of Hensall and Bill Snell
and Edythe Snell, both of Westfield.
Mr. Snell was also loved by nine
grandchildren and 21 great-
grandchildren. He was the dear
brother and brother-in-law of Jasper
and Eva Snell of Westfield and
Jeanetta and Delton Hallman of
Cambridge.
Besides his parents, Mr. Snell was
predeceased by his two brothers
Alvin and Donald Snell and by his
sisters-in-law Eugene and Shirley
Snell.
Friends were received at the Blyth
Visitation Centre of Falconer
Funeral Homes Ltd. on July 3 from
2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. to
9 p.m. The funeral service was held
at the Westfield Fellowship Church
on Friday, July 4 at 1 p.m. with Don
Vair officiating. Interment followedat Blyth Union Cemetery.Flowerbearers were Lisa Forrest,Julie Forrest, Rachael Snell and
Madeline Snell. Pallbearers were
Clark Forrest, Dan Snell, Wesley
Snell, Matthew Forrest, Ken Snell
and John Wharton.
Expressions of sympathy are
being accepted in the form of
donations to the Westfield
Fellowship Church and New Tribes
Missions, or to a charity of one’s
choice.
ALVIN CAMPBELL
McDONALD
Alvin Campbell McDonald of
Seaforth and formerly of Grey Twp.
passed away at home on Monday,
July 7, 2008. He was 92.
Mr. McDonald was the beloved
husband of the late Vera (Mole)
McDonald who predeceased him in
2004. He was the cherished father
of Lynne and John Davies of
Seaforth. Mr. McDonald was dearly
loved by his grandchildren
Christopher of London and
Shannon of Vancouver. He will be
fondly remembered by Pamela
Davis. He was the dear brother of
Jean McGale of Victoria. Mr.
McDonald was the loving uncle of
Ken McGale and Martin McGale,
both of Toronto; Carol (Eugene)
Hirt of Tillsonburg; Thayne
(Marion) Cassidy of Stratford; and
Wayne Cassidy (Eleanor) of
Ingersoll. He is also survived by
many, many great-nieces and great-
nephews.
He was also predeceased by his
parents John C. and Gertrude(Campbell) McDonald, a daughterGertrude Edith, in infancy (1952),his brother-in-law Patrick McGale,
sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law
Laura Workman Stewart, Rev. H. V.
Workman and Rev. Ure Stewart;
Donelda (Donna) and Lawrence
Cassidy; John Mole, in infancy and
a nephew Garry Cassidy.
Family received friends at the
Whitney-Ribey Funeral Home, 87
Goderich St. W., Seaforth on
Wednesday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m.
The funeral service will be held at
Northside United Church, 54
Goderich St. W., Seaforth on
Thursday, July 10 at 11 a.m.
Pastor Elly Dow will officiate.
The eulogy will be given by Chris
Davies. The piper will be Ian
McCrae.
Pallbearers will be Paul Krauter,
Ern Lewington, Harry Zwep,
George Zwep, Jerry Zwep, Eugene
Hirt, Donald Cole and Barry Grist.
Honorary pallbearers will be Glen
Carter, Watson Reid, Forrest
Whittard, Jack Turnbull, Darwin
Bannermann, Alvin Riley and
Campbell Wey.
Flowerbearers will be Rita
Hoogenes and Audrey Coyne.
Interment will be in Brussels
Cemetery.

BARRY JACKLIN SR.Barry Jacklin Sr. of Bluevale,passed away at Wingham andDistrict Hospital on Sunday, July 6,
2008. Born in Listowel on July 9,
1946, Barry was in his 62nd year.
Barry is the dear son of Doris and
the late Archie Jacklin of RR2,
Bluevale. He was the dear father of
Barry and Laura Jacklin of Sudbury,
Wayne Jacklin and Doreen
Hamilton of Atwood, Tammy
Wright of Whitechurch and Trevor
and Carrie Jacklin of Napanee. He
is also loved by his brother Keith
Jacklin of RR2, Bluevale, his sister
Gloria Bowman of Listowel and his
grandchildren Brody, Taylor,
Jordan, Dustin, Daunte, Shaelee and
Abbey.
Barry was predeceased by his
sister Ruth Farrish and and brother-
in-law Wayne Bowman.
Friends were received by the
family from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 p.m.
Tuesday from the Schimanski
Family Funeral Home where the
funeral was held on Wednesday,
July 9 at 2 p.m.
Cremation is to follow with
interment in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery.
