Livestock for the week ending July 4
were 1,478 head of cattle, 704 lambs
and goats. On Tuesday fed steers and
heifers sold $2 higher. Choice steers
and heifers sold $93 to $97 with
sales to $99.75. Second cut sold $91
to $93. Cows sold on a good strong
active trade. On Thursday veal sold
steady. Lambs, sheep and goats sold
steady. On Friday calves and
yearlings sold $4 to $5 higher.
There were 260 steers on offer.

On Wednesday, June 18, the 4-H
Swine Club held its third meeting at
the Winthrop church.
Guest speaker was Tom Fritz,
owner of Fritz Concrete Inc. located
in Chatsworth.
He talked about the beginning of
his career. Tom started out farming
pigs farrow to finish and shortly after
started his company. They have been
in business 36 years. The company
makes pre-cast concrete which is
used in commercial and farm
buildings.
He showed some blueprints of
different barns they have built.
The next meeting will be at Leanne
Ryan’s house on July 16.
In conjunction with the 147th
Brussels Fall Fair, Sept. 16 and 17
the Brussels Agricultural Society is
again sponsoring field crop
competitions in winter wheat,
barley, grain corn, white beans,
soybeans.
This competition is open to
farmers in Morris and Grey wards
only. Crops will be judged in the
field before harvest and a (variety
named) sample exhibited in
accordance with Section F-4 of the
prize list at the Brussels Fall Fair,
Sept. 17.
Prizes are awarded on combined
field and exhibit score.
