special celeb-
ration in our
lives... I never
would have
imagined that I
would have the
privilege to be
standing here in
front of you
today.
Congratulations to all the Grade 8
students, and a special thank you to
parents, grandparents, and teachers
who have played an important part
in getting us to tonight.
I was given this opportunity to
address all of you, and it is
extremely humbling but also
exciting, because today is the
culmination of a goal completed.
Over the years at Hullett we have
had one common unifying ambition,
to get to this point, to be right here...
to graduate.
By now we have learned the
ABCs of life. Our teachers at Hullett
have prepared us well. Let me share
their teachings with you....
A- Accept Differences - Luckily
we are not all the same. We are
different in what we believe in and in
what we hope for. We will also go in
different directions after this year
and may we remember our good
times at Hullett and that we grew up
together.
B- Be Kind - Mrs. Kemp greeted
us in kindergarten when we were all
excited and nervous about starting
school. She taught us the most
important lessons about being kind
to your friends.
C- Count your Blessings - Ms
Weiss would be one of our many
blessings as she taught Grade 1 -
remember the reading circle, her
cozy chair, and reading stories to us
cuddled up on the carpet. Her
classroom was full of magic and
learning things.D- Dream - This will be animportant part of the days to come -
that we dream about possibilities and
opportunities that we want to pursue.
May each of us realize our “dream
come true”. Be the best you can be.
E- Express Thanks - To Mrs.
Hymers, Mrs. VandenHeuvel, and
Mr. Bosman who made our times at
Hullett the very best – we thank you.
F- Forgive- There were likely sad
and mad times too. Let’s be sure to
let it go, it’s not that important
anymore, and forgive those who
have hurt you.
G- Go For It - This is the
beginning of your life, give it all
you’ve got, dream big and go for it.
H- Be Happy - Remember your
happiness is important, never lose
sight of that.
I- Imagine More - There are so
many possibilities: think big, have
fun, laugh out loud, dream big.
J - Joking Around - Thanks to Mr.
Caldwell for having a good sense of
humour.L- Love Truly - Thanks to ourparents for getting us to school on
time, signing our planners, packing
our lunches, watching our concerts,
nagging us about homework and for
loving us.
M-Master Something - Mrs.
Vandendool taught us those
important lessons in Grades 2 and 3,
and we even survived EQAO. She
taught us to get really good at
something – reading, writing, and
arithmetic.
N - Nurture Hope - Mrs. Pickell
always comes to school with a
friendly smile and a willingness to
help. She nurtures hope that
anything is possible.
O - Open Your Mind - Mr. Coups
has been a fabulous Grade 8 teacher.
He is someone you can talk to about
anything and he encourages us to
keep an open mind. His favourite
saying – Catch more bees with
honey than with vinegar.
P - Pack Lightly - Okay, now I
learned this one just recently whenwe went on our Grade 8 trip to CampCeltic. But there are all those things
you need and want to take with you.
Q - Quiet - Quiet in the hallways,
quiet in the library, quiet, quiet,
quiet. As Winnie the Pooh taught us
– think your own thoughts.
R - Remember where you came
from – Hullett is a little country
school where we learned to take care
of each other. Stay in touch.
Remember to keep a song in your
heart. Thanks for that Mrs. Barnett.
S - Seek Wisdom - Enjoy high
school and beyond. Continue to
learn.
T - Touch Hearts - May each of us
make a difference in the world. Even
if we touch someone’s heart and help
them along their way it will make
the world a better place.
U- Understand - Mrs. Gilroy got
us through Grade 7 and helped us to
understand ourselves a little better.
V - Virtues - I think we have
learned them all. Thanks Mrs.
Antoniuk for making this part of thecurriculum – you taught us well.WXYZ - The ending of the
alphabet and the ending of my
speech to you. On that final note, I
would like to leave you with this
poem on our graduation day:
A time to reflect on the past,
To look ahead to tomorrow
And make all your dreams and
ambitions reality.
A day set aside for all of us
to wish you,
A wonderful and happy future.
As we leave here today, we will
have many more decisions to make.
When I look back on our years here
at Hullett, I feel like much is left to
be accomplished. I think we all feel
that way. We are certainly proud of
what we have done but we still feel
like our future possibilities are
endless.
Many exhausting but thoroughly
enjoyable days lie ahead of us. So I
hope we all take advantage of what
we are capable of.
