The Citizen, 2008-07-10, Page 9Happy Canada Day to everyone.
There are lots of ways to celebrate
including families attending the
fireworks in Goderich and Vanastra.
We saw lots of folks at the Seaforth
firefighters’ breakfast and it was
excellent.
The family of Marilyn McDonald
celebrated a little early by having a
family celebration at the home of
Jim and Linda McDonald on
Sunday. Marilyn’s children,
including Bruce and Linda, Heather
and Ron, Cathy and Paul, Pat and
Mike and Jeanne and Rob attended,
along with various members of their
families. The day included dropping
in on Mary Humphries’ 90th
birthday party, golfing at
Cranbrook, talking and eating of
course. They always have a great
time when together and this time
was no exception.
There sure was one happy little
boy who reports that he had the
most wonderful birthday last week.
Young Caden Lee turned the ripe
old age of seven and spent his
birthday doing some very special
things. The night before his
birthday, he had a birthday party at
the home of Grandpa Ken and
Gramma Deb Janmaats with lots of
his relatives celebrating with him.
The morning of this birthday,
started off with a birthday breakfast
with mom Tracy and dad Brett.
Then it was off to golf with just dad.
After a quick bite of lunch, it was
off to the next adventure. A
surprised little boy arrived at Home
On The Range, horseback riding
farm of Hugo Bontrup. Along with
Grandpa Chris and Grandma Judy
Lee, mom and dad, and Judy
Emmrich, they spent the next two
hours riding horses.
Caden reports his horse Lolly was
a good horse.
The day wasn’t over yet, as the
next adventure was to travel to
Goderich to watch the beautiful
fireworks display. It was a full day
and wonderful reports Caden.
Home for a short visit with mom
and dad, Sherry and Murray McCall
and the rest of the relatives were
Marcy McCall MacBain and the
almost three-year-old Alivia. Marcy
also attended the wedding of Rick
Lobb and caught up with many old
friends there.
We say farewell to Harvey and
Cindy Holland who have moved to
Clinton. We hope they will both
continue to drop in on their Walton
friends from time to time. A sale
was held on the farm on Saturday
with a good crowd on hand.
The Walton Women’s Institute
held their June meeting in
Wingham. They toured Royal
Homes and then had their lunch at
Jag’s. Margaret McMahon was in
charge of the meeting and they held
the business portion of the meeting
following lunch. Vicki Carter was
the guest speaker. She spoke about
Institute.
Some Brussels folks have
returned from celebrating a family
wedding in the States last weekend.
Cecil Moore, Eric, Deb,
Christopher and Jeremy Ross
travelled to Rutland, Vermont to
attend the wedding of grandson and
nephew, Nicholas Wheeler. Nick is
the son of Laurie and Scott Wheeler
and a grandson of Delores Wheeler.
They report a lovely wedding, a
great time, beautiful scenery, some
fun golf and a long drive. Scott andLaurie Wheeler arrived in Brusselson the holiday Tuesday to seeDelores before their return to theirhome in Victoria B.C. at week’send. There was an appreciation bustrip for customers of CKNX lastweek. They were off to Toronto andthe Blue Jays game. The Blue Jays
were playing against Atlanta and
unfortunately the Jays lost.
Enjoying the outing from the area
were Neil and Marie McGavin,
Tim, Donna, Jim and Nathan Prior
and Greg and Evan Ducharme.
Having a Canada Day party were
Neil and Marie McGavin.
Celebrating were friends and
neighbours of the McGavins. They
had a potluck meal and enjoyed
fireworks later in the evening.
Heading off for a few days in
North Bay were Brian McGavin
with Abby and Tyson. Having to
make a business delivery to the
north, it only made sense to go a bit
farther and drop in on sister Heather
and Bryan Kelso and family. They
spent a few days together, then it
was time to come home.
Graeme and Helen Craig were off
to Bellwood to pick up Michael
from camp on Friday. From there, it
was off to Haliburton to attend the
Elliott family reunion. The hosts
were Helen’s sister Emily Larue
and family. They were away until
Sunday and with nearly 30 people
attending, a couple of cottages were
needed. Coming home for the
reunion was the other Elliott sister,
Mary, from B.C. She will b around
to visit for a while.
It was a wedding celebration for
another grandchild of Clarence and
Jane White on the weekend. A
beautiful summer’s day for the
nuptials of Michelle McNichol and
new husband Jason. Parents Murray
and Colleen McNichol hosted the
rehearsal party on Friday evening
and the wedding was held at
Hessenland on Saturday.
Returning from a few days up
north were Don and Pat Dalton.
They took the motorcycle and
headed to Tobermory to cross the
channel on the Chi-cheemaun. They
crossed the island and carried on to
Little Current, Parry Sound and
eventually made it to Macteer
stopping and staying along the way.
They visited with their son Gerrid’s
in-laws and while there made a call
to look up an old Presbyterian
minister who had served in
Seaforth. They made the trip to
Gravenhurst to visit Rev. Tom
Duke, in a retirement home and his
wife in the nursing home. While
away, they also stopped in at the old
hunt camp, but found no onearound. They report having a good trip. Mavis Dalton is a patient inSeaforth hospital and Mary Huetheris also in Seaforth. Joe Semple isnow in Listowel hospital and will bea while recovering. Pat Langlois ishome and hopefully feeling betterjust in time for her and George’s
50th wedding anniversary soon.
Five years flies by so fast, it’s
hard to believe. It was five years ago
we had a wedding at our farm for
our daughter LeeAnn and husband
Jason. We celebrated their five-year
anniversary with a surprise party for
them at their home. It was a
beautiful day on Saturday, so Rick
took them out on the boat for some
fishing. A tour from Bayfield to
almost Grand Bend and back put in
most of the early afternoon.
By the time they arrived home, it
was time for the guests to arrive.
They were really surprised when
many of their wedding party
“dropped” by. A barbecue and meal
complete with anniversary cake was
enjoyed by the many there. Happy
anniversary LeeAnn and Jason.
Anne Elliott and many of the
Elliott family members were off to
Ohio for the wedding of Anne’s
granddaughter, Laura. They
travelled to near Youngstown, Ohio,
where Anne’s oldest daughter Fern
and husband Ward live and farm.
They left on Thursday morning and
after a seven-hour drive arrived. The
wedding was held on Friday
morning and a wonderful lunch and
afternoon of socializing was held.
Attending along with Anne were
Rob, Cathy, Chris, Michelle, Molly
and Jack Burkholder, Harry Smith,
and Donna and Les Black. They
report having a great time.
Chris and Colleen Smith and boys
Cam and Colin have moved into
their new home on Sawmill Road.
We wish them all the best in their
new surroundings.
The lucky bidders at the Walton’s
Duff’s United Church auction for a
dinner at Emerson and Phyllis
Mitchell’s were Lorne and Bonnie
Glanville. They enjoyed their
delicious meal at the Mitchell home
on Sunday evening with family
members and guests. Turkey, roast
beef and all the trimmings along
with yummy desserts including
apple pie with birthday candles for
Lorne’s birthday. The group
included Lorne and Bonnie, Robert
and Jackie, Joelle, Melissa and
Edward Glanville, Don and Pat
Dalton, and Harold and Carolanne
Menary. They enjoyed a tour of the
house and after dinner enjoyed
sitting outside and visiting.
Returning from a trip toEdmonton is Matt Lee. He was on aworking holiday, as he was buildingthe track at Castrol Raceway, justsouth of Edmonton, for theupcoming national race to be heldthere on July 19 and 20. Matt hasbecome known for his expertise intrack design and building tracks thatare fast and flowing yet challenging
for the expert riders of the National
circuit.
Birthdays in the past week
include a special one of Rob
Burkholder, more than 49 but less
than 51. Other celebrants are Bob
Humphries, Allison Stevenson,
Ralph Bos, Dianne Blake, Lorne
Glanville, Brad Knight, Allan
Carter, Emily and Sean Mitchell,
Jasmin Roth, Steve Fritz, Richard
Gerber, Mitchell Ryan and Gerald
Watson.

The Walton Wonders played
against the Belgrave Classics for
their last game in June. Playing
shorthanded made the game tougher,
and the Wonders lost 17-11.
The team batted well with Joanna
Wallace almost going the cycle with
a single, triple and a homerun. Jo-
Ann McDonald went four for four
with four singles and Sandra Josling

three singles. Lisa DeJong helped
the cause by hitting a single and a
double.
Susan Alexander pitched
extremely well for the full game.
The Wonders travelled to
Monkton to play the new team in the
league, Laverne’s Ladies. The
Wonders only had 10 players and
both regular pitchers were out. Jo-

time this year and did all right.
The bats for the Wonders came
alive with a number of players going
five for five including Erin
Robinson, Jolene McNichol and
Erin Hart. Joanna Wallace went four
for five including hitting a triple and
earning six RBIs.
Walton had a total of 36 base
runners scoring 18 runs in the win.

earned by the combo of Joanna and
