BRUSSELS MINOR HOCKEY U-12 Lightning downs Brussels The Blyth U-14 Warheads soccer team travelled to Goderich to play against Goderich Red at the YMCA field on June 26. This was an extremely closely-matched game of soccer as both teams volleyed the ball up and down the field, working to gain control of the ball. There were many shots taken on both nets, but neither team was able to score in the first half of the game. Blyth poured on the power and scored near the midway point of the second half. The VanDorp twins teamed up and Jan Paul earned the assist on his brother Leendert’s goal. This gave Blyth the momentum they needed to score again. Keeper Micah Nonkes earned an assist after kicking the ball to the middle of the field. Greg Roetcisoender took control and scored on a breakaway. Wyatt Bearss and Nonkes took turns in the net for the Warheads and both made some great saves to earn a shutout for their team. Blyth won 2-0. Coaches Mary Ann and Brent Drost were pleased with their team’s effort and determination to keep digging for control of the ball and taking shots on their opponent’s net. Blyth closes door on Reds
