I wish to thank the Belgrave community for the delightful party you gave in honour of my 100th birthday. When Ross Procter suggested having a party I said, “No thanks. I am not out and about now and people will have forgotten me. There wouldn’t be many visitors.” I am so glad I was encouraged to change my mind. It was one of the enjoyable days in my life. I wish to thank everyone who helped to make it a really happy day. There was so many helpers I hesitate to use names but I am going to use a few. First, a special thanks to Ross Procter and Noreen Gnay who took on the task of planning and arranging. From an old school teacher’s standpoint, I definitely give them an A plus. Thanks to Elizabeth Procter for designing the invitations – I loved them. The four-foot banner displaying birthday greetings was a gift from the artist at Blyth Printing Inc. I am told it was all done by computer, even the classy slippers used in the design. It is beautiful. It is still being admired in my dining room. Thank you. Charlie Procter “piped me in”, What a fun way to begin the afternoon! I was concerned about my deafness and poor eyesight but my niece, Joyce Miller, who looked after the guest book, tactfully suggested to the visitors that they give me their name as they reached for a handshake. My sister-in-law sat beside me ready to help if I needed it. Thank you ladies. That was just the support I needed. I enjoyed the program immensely. Don Vair’s piano medley of dear old tunes soon had the toes tapping. Arnold Bruce with his violin accompanied by Mary Coultes at the piano kept the toes tapping with old time music. I always look forward to a solo by John Roberts accompanied by Kay. Thanks to all of you. My niece, Mary Hatheway and her daughter, Jennifer gathered the pictures together. We tried to arrange them decade by decade. I am glad Mary thought of a way to show you a few of our slipper collection. We have about 300 now. Mary photographs them and I do the scrapbooking so we have records of all of them. We are starting our third album. Your help was very necessary for all eight posters. We were concerned about how we could display them. Walter made all those frames with a support at the back. We could just set them on the tables. Ladies from the U.C.W. at Knox United manned the kitchen and table duties. And thanks too for the delicious birthday cake, nibblings and beverages. I simply don’t know who did all these things so will just say thanks everyone. Patricia Armes and Chris Miller came back early to look after supper here at my house. There were supper guests from St. Catharines, Windsor, Toronto and Egmondville. It gave these guests time to sit and chat. In the afternoon friends came from Woodstock, Goderich and Kincardine and a host of friends from Wingham, Belgrave and here and there. I think I shook hands and greeted old friends all afternoon. The greetings, visits, flowers and gifts are unbelievable. My heart is overflowing with happiness. How could a party ever be more wonderful and memorable. Again, my thanks to everyone. – With love, Janisa Coultes. 26-1p IVES. We have so many people to thank. It’s amazing how much support we’ve had. I have so many reasons to be thankful for – to Dr. Sleeth, Dr. Moores, Dr. Marshall, ICU and second-floor nursing staff at Wingham & District Hospital, my sincere thanks and appreciation for your excellent care and compassion. At St. Mary’s Regional Cardiac Care Centre, Kitchener, my gratitude is extended to Dr. Kim, cardiologist whose fantastic bedside manner was equalled only by his tremendous expertise. To Vera Martin, AC Nurse Practitioner, who kept me updated in their findings and in my progress and to all nursing staff in nuclear medicine and in the CC unit, I truly thank you. For all the inquiries, good wishes, flowers, food sent to our home, visits and continued support of my good friends and neighbours, you have proven once again why Blyth is the greatest place to live. Our staff at Blyth General Store scheduled their hours and kept the store running to our complete satisfaction. Thanks Stacy, Kim, Chantal and Tyler for a job well done. What a joy it was to come home. All the yard work was done and nothing to do in our home but relax and enjoy. A very special thank you to my husband, Bruce, children, Shelley, Barb, Kent and their families for all their work, but most important for their love and support. Thanks again and God bless all – Gwen Papple. 26-1p -------------------------------------------- TASKER. Thank you for the wonderful support I received during my recent breast cancer surgery and radiation. My treatments are finished now and God willing so is the cancer. Love and thanks to Kevin, Nate and Cook and Tasker families for always being here for me. To Linda Meier whom I am proud to call my friend for her knowledge, words of encouragement and rides to London twice a week, it helped so much having someone who’s been there. To everyone else who offered rides, sent flowers and made phone calls, thank you from the bottom of my heart. I feel like the luckiest person in the world! – Connie.26-1p PAGE 16.
