The Blyth U-14 Terminators boys
team travelled to St. Columban for
their weekly game of soccer, on June
12. It was a windy night as these two
teams met for the second time this
season.
With the wind against them in the
first half Blyth’s players had a
difficult time controlling the ball and
outplaying their opponents. St.
Columban was able to sneak three
shots and a successful penalty shot
in to get four points in the first half.
Blyth managed only one goal in
the first half. Austin Chaffe took
control of the ball and booted it
across the field and Tyler Guetter
chipped the ball into the net to score
for Blyth.
With a pep talk and a much needed
break, Blyth regrouped and came
out for an amazing second half.
Marc Dery and Leendert VanDorp
set the ball up for their teammate
and Jan Paul VanDorp scored for
Blyth. The VanDorp twins, Jan Paul
and Leendert, manoeuvered the ball
around St. Columban’s defence and
Derek deBoer scored for Blyth to
narrow the gap in the score. Jan Paul
VanDorp stole the ball away from St.
Columban and drove the ball into
the net to tie up the game.
Each team dug hard for the ball
and tried to break the tie score
making the game very exciting. With
only 10 seconds left St. Columban
took a long shot at Blyth’s net. The
ball lobbed towards the net and the
wind caught it as it bounced towards
the goal and into the net. It was a
heartbreaking goal for Blyth when
they fought so hard to come from
behind. With only seconds left in the
game there was no time to get
another goal and St. Columban
squeezed by with a 5-4 win.
Wyatt Bearss and Hunter Broda
shared goalkeeping duties for Blyth
for the game.
The coaches said “Blyth players
were discouraged in the first half,
but we were very pleased to see their
skill and determination come back
and almost end in a tie during the
second half of the game.
The next game is Thursday night.
Despite light rain and the threat of
severe thunderstorms, the final
Kawasaki Two-Wheel Double-
Header Motocross for the
southwestern region of the Canadian
Motorsports Racing Club went off
without a hitch in Walton over the
weekend.
The weekend brought over 3,500
people to the area and approximately
800 entries. While the pro field
suffered slightly due to many of the
class leaders travelling to Manitoba
for the Pro Nationals, this opened
the door for past provincial
champion Pierce Chamberlain who
won the majority of the $2,000
purse.
The next event in Walton will be
the ATV Provincial Motocross on
June 22.
Local riders finishing in the top
ten in their classes included Mitchell
Godkin, who finished third in the

Robertson of Belgrave who finished
just two spots behind Godkin, taking
fifth in the class.
In the GP beginner class, Brett
Courtney of Blyth finished tied for

Walton, while just behind them in
fifth was Brad Greidanus of
Londesborough.

There was a great night of action for soccer fans as the U-
16 boys from Blyth took on a mixed Bayfield squad. It was
good showing for the locals as they captured this contest
by a score of 10-2. (Vicky Bremner photo)
The Brussels U-12s faced off
against Seaforth last week. They
finally had some good weather for
playing.
Despite being short two players,
they had a 7-1 victory. Solid on
defence were Logan Kellington and
Derrick Waechter. These two were
much shorter than the Seaforth
forwards and were able to kick the
ball away from them several times
by sneaking in under their knees.
Forwards, Tim Waechter, Carl
Dowe, Alyssa Cronin, Lexi Smith
and Mitch Kellington worked well
as a team to rack up the points. In
net were Matt Terpstra and Scott
Dolmage.
The next home game is Tuesday,
July 1 at 7:15 p.m. behind the arena.

to the boys U-16 soccer game
against Bayfield on June 11. Greg
Roetcisoender covered the net for
Blyth for this soccer match.

Bayfield at the top of the first half.
Brendon Boven and Jordon Rinn
worked the ball up the field to earn
an assist on the goals. Jan Paul
VanDorp earned an assist on the
next goal for Blyth when Austin
Sjaarda headed the ball into the net.
Matt Steele took a nice clean kick
on the corner kick and Tolson

Blyth. Carter and Sjaarda worked
together to control the ball and
shooting it towards the Bayfield’s
net.
Drost headed the ball into the net,
earning a hattrick for the game.
Blyth dominated the first half and
was ahead 5-0 at half-time.
Bayfield got on the scoreboard
when they shot the ball up and over
Blyth’s keeper. Half-back Jessie Pot
stole the ball away from Bayfield
and worked it towards the net.
Carter received the pass and
scored for the Destroyers.
Bayfield was next to get a ball
into the net after Blyth’s defence
failed to work the ball away from
the net.
Blyth’s Carter took a corner kick
and Drost made contact with the
ball and chipped it into the net for
his team. Sjaarda made a nice pass
to his teammate and earned another
assist and Caleb Haak scored his
first goal of the season for Blyth.
Rinn earned credit on another assist
and Steele got the ball into the net
for Blyth. Leendert VanDorp
worked the ball up the field and
Carter scored another goal making
it a hattrick for him this game.
It was a co-operative team effort
for Blyth to win this game. Blyth’s
defensive and half-back players did
their job to get the ball out of their
end and work the ball up the field to
help their team have many scoring
opportunities.
The Destroyers played a strong
game and defeated Bayfield with a
score of 10-2.
