HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Citizen, 2008-06-12, Page 21It was a golden day of celebrationfor John and Marie McIntosh ofMorris as they marked 50 years ofmarriage on Sunday.Friends and family honoured thecouple during an open house at theBelgrave arena. It was June 7, 1958 when Rev. Kraft united in marriage the former Marie Gateman of Hanover and John McIntosh of Port Credit at Hanover Lutheran Church. The bride was the daughter of Vera and Carl Gateman and the groom was the son of John and Dorothy McIntosh. June Gateman was the bridesmaid and Richard McIntosh was best man. Ushering guests were Don McIntosh and Melvin Gateman. The newlyweds visited Northern Ontario during their honeymoon before returning to Sheffield where they resided for three years. They eventually farmed in the Dundalkarea for 14 years before coming toMorris Twp, to farm 33 years ago. Besides farming, for the past 20years John has raised Great Danes. Marie worked as a teacher andsince 1965 has made sure in another way that young people receive an education — driving the bus that gets them to school. The McIntoshes welcomed into their family eight children: Mike (Diane), David, Rob (Brenda), Kim (Bud Breyley), Janet (Travis Koehler), Heather (Rod Jones), Chris (Stephanie) and Paul (Carole). They are proud grandparents of 19 and great-grandparents of one. John has shared his musical talents throughout the community, on his own and as a member of the Belgrave United Church choir. Marie is a member of the Maitland Rivert Community Church. Morris couple celebrates golden anniversary The Friday night euchre at the Cranbrook hall was hosted by Linda and Leanne Minielly, Neil Hatt and Edna McLellan. There were 5 1/2 tables at play. The share-the-wealth was won by Murray Hoover and Judy Hahn. Travelling lone hand winner was Shirley Verstoep. The euchre winners were: high lady, Mary Huether; low lady, Verna Crawford; lone hands, Leona McDonald; high man, Marion Harrison; low man, Beryl Smith; lone hands, Allan Edgar, Murray Hoover and Neil Hatt. The tally winners were Viola Adams, Leslie Knight, Myrna Burnett, Adrian Verstoep, Yvonne Knight, Judy Hahn, Dorothy Dilworth, Stewart Steiss and Helen Dobson. The next euchre at the hall will be Friday, June 20 at 8 p.m.Congratulations John and Marie McIntosh celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary over the weekend in Belgrave.
