Jim was the beloved husband of
Hinke Bakelaar. He was the father
of two sons, Don and Bonnie
Bakelaar of Listowel and Calvin
and Cheryl Bakelaar of Blyth and
four daughters, Mary and Peter
Slotegraaf of Listowel, Joanne and
Herb Van Amersfoort of Blyth,
Cathi and Al Korvemaker of Forest,
and Veronica and Ralph deVries of
Cottam.
He will be missed by 27
grandchildren, Emily, Luke
(Tanya), Sarah (Josiah), Sid, April
(Josh), Jeremy, Steven, Kerissa,
Janine, Stefany, Kendra, Kyle,
Calvin, Jonas, Ian, Andrea, Jamie,
Shane, Joanna, Samantha, Michelle,
Jordan, Monica, Anna, Ruben,
Ailene and Leah.
Jim was the brother and brother-
in-law of Bill and Wilma, Grace,
Alice, John and Wilma, Jake and
Joanne, Cor and Olie, Len and
Rynie, Hans and Linda.
He was predeceased by two
brothers Peter and Adrian.
Jim was born July 28, 1933 in
South Holland, The Netherlands,
the fourth of nine sons born to John
and Adriana Bakelaar.
Jim immigrated to Canada by
boat with his family in April of
1951. The Bakelaar family first
settled in Auburn, Ontario.
On June 8, 1956, Jim married
Hinke Bruinsma. They were
married for almost 52 years.
When Jim and Hinke were firstmarried, Jim was an auto mechanicworking for Radfords. He then tookanother job as an auto mechanic in
Ingersoll. Jim and Hinke moved to
Ingersoll and lived there for 12
years where their children were
born. While working as an auto
mechanic, Jim sustained a back
injury, which resulted in him being
unable to continue working in his
chosen profession.
An opportunity arose which
enabled him to attend teachers’
college in London. As a result, Jim
became an auto mechanic teacher.
After Jim finished teachers’college,
the Bakelaar family moved back to
Huron County and settled north of
Blyth. Jim took a job in the
Wingham high school and was later
transferred to the Clinton high
school where he taught until his
retirement in 1997.
Jim and his family had strong ties
to the Christian Reformed Church
and continued this as members of
the Blyth CRC. Jim served the
church as Sunday school
superintendent for 11 years, taught
catechism for many years and
served the church as an elder for
numerous terms.
Jim was concerned about giving a
voice to the unborn and volunteered
with the Right to Life for a number
of years. He also volunteered at the
Bluewater Youth Centre in
Goderich where he implemented
and taught a small engine repair
course.
In Jim’s retirement he wanted to
be involved in missions. He wasable to serve using his gifts throughMission to Haiti. He took nine tripsto Haiti to help improve the lives of
the people there.
During his retirement he also
enjoyed working for Herman
Thalen building cabinets and
stairways and he always looked
forward to his fishing trip up north
with his teaching colleagues. He
spent much time in his own shop at
home building various items out of
wood, many of which went on to be
sold at fundraising bazaars and
school auctions.
He loved his family and always
enjoyed the annual family camping
weekend together.
On June 2, 2008 after battling
stomach cancer for more than a
year, Jim passed away at his home
and went home to be with the Lord.
He will be missed by all.
At Jim’s request there was no
public visitation.
A memorial service was held on
Wednesday, June 4 at 3 p.m. at the
Blyth Christian Reformed Church.
Pastor John Kuperus officiated.
Interment was in Blyth Union
Cemetery.
As expressions of sympathy,
memorial donations may be made
to Mission to Haiti.
Funeral arrangements were
entrusted to Falconer Funeral
Homes Ltd ., Clinton.
ROBERT A. DALTON
Robert A. Dalton of Hullett Twp.
passed away at Seaforth Manor
Nursing Home on Saturday, June 7,2008. He was in his 82nd year.Mr. Dalton was the belovedhusband of Dorothy (McClure)
Dalton for over 58 years. He was
the dear father of Blanche Coady of
Mitchell, Carl (Kelly) Dalton and
his wife Sharon of RR1,
Londesborough and Kathy and
husband Ron Ward of Staffa. He
was the loving grandfather of Jamie
(Jennifer) Dalton, Jason Dalton (Pat
Campbell), Kelly-Ann Dalton,
Jennifer Ward (Rick Kerr) and
Michael Ward and great-
grandfather of Niamh Dalton and
Cameron Kerr.
Mr. Dalton will be remembered as
well by brother Murray (Dick)
Dalton and his wife Janet, sister
Doris Muir, sister-in-law Mavis
Dalton and brother-in-law
Walter McClure, all of Seaforth,
and sister-in-law Fern McClure
of Egmondville. He is also sur-
vived by many nieces and nephews
and great-nieces and great-
nephews.
Robert was predeceased by his
parents Carl and Janet (Smith)
Dalton, brothers Percy Dalton and
Doug Dalton and brother-in-law
Dave Muir.
Family received friends at the
Whitney-Ribey Funeral Home,
Seaforth on Monday from 2 - 4 and
7 - 9 p.m. The funeral service was
held at Northside United Church on
Tuesday, June 10 at 2 p.m. Rev.
John Gould officiated.
Pallbearers were Jamie Dalton,
Jason Dalton, Michael Ward, Don
Dalton, Ken Dalton and John Muir.Flowerbearers were Kelly-AnnDalton and Jennifer Ward.Interment was in Maitlandbank
Cemetery, Seaforth.
Memorial donations to the
Canadian Cancer Society, Canadian
Diabetes Association or Cavan
United Church, Winthrop would be
appreciated.

Junior Stiles, formerly of Brussels
and Bolton, Ontario, passed away
peacefully in Civic Hospital,
Brampton on Saturday, May 31,
2008. He was in his 81st year.
Junior was predeceased by his
parents William (1967) and Sarah
(1969) Stiles and his siblings Dr.
Bill “Buster” (1994), Louise
(2003), Alice (2006), Joseph
(1992), Annie (1998), Ken “Mac”
(2003), John (2006), Ted (2007) and
Allan (1957).
Junior is survived by two
brothers, Stewart (Joan) of London,
Gordon (Jean) of Stratford, two
sisters, Dorothy (George)
McMichan of Quinte West, Barbara
(Jim) Rumball of London and many
nieces and nephews.
The funeral service for the late
Junior Stiles was held June 5 at 7
p.m. from the Egan Funeral Home,
Bolton, Ontario with Pastor Kevin
Parks officiating.
Interment followed at the Bolton
cemetery.
