HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Citizen, 2008-06-12, Page 13The big news around Walton
would be the sighting of a bear. The
bear was sighted crossing the Button
Line roadway and was estimated to
be around 200 ponds.
Investigating the tracks, people
found paw print twice the size of my
little hand, so I’m pretty sure that
would mean it was a good-sized
bear.
There have been numerous
sightings in the past while, with one
in Turnberry Twp. and Teeswater. A
bear was shot in Wellington County
not too long ago.
Makes you want to think twice
about going for a walk down the
road.
You can see more changes while
driving down the roads and that
would include the loss of another
older barn. The barn on the farm of
Valerie Shortreed is being
dismantled, with the roof and sides
already gone. It won’t be long and
the rest will be gone as well.
The shed at the home farm ofGerry Ryan is also being partiallydismantled. It was damaged in awindstorm awhile back, when theroof lifted and caused the damage. Acrane was brought in this week to liftoff the trusses and make the repairsand to replace the roof. The hosts for the annual Mogkreunion were Paul and Cheryl Ryan. They hosted the gathering at their
home on Sunday afternoon. There
were about 50 relatives in attendance
to enjoy the day and the bountiful
food for the day’s affair. It’s always
nice to see the extended relatives
once a year.
Welcome to the new cook at the
Walton Inn. Carol Gross has joined
the staff as a cook and now we will
see more of Marlene Little out front
as a waitress.
Helen Craig is coming along after
having ear surgery. She has been
seen at the Walton Inn and says her
balance is improving.
Our condolences are extended to
the Dalton family on the passing of
Bob Dalton. The Daltons are well
known in the area and Bob and his
wife Dorothy were avid card players.
Our sympathies are extended to
their children Blanche, Kelly (Carl)
and Cathy and their families.

gathering at Robert and Jackie
Glanville’s house to celebrate Lorne
and Bonnie Glanville’s 40th
wedding anniversary and Bonnie’s60th birthday on Sunday afternoon. The anniversary is actually in Marchand Lorne and Bonnie celebratedearlier in the year with a fantasticcruise. This celebration was actually onBonnie’s birthday, but a combinedparty was held for all the family andfriends to attend and enjoy in nicerweather.
Special guests included their son
Paul and wife Teresa, children

Lorne’s brother Alec from
Saskatchewan. The dinner bell was
the rain storm that got everyone into
the shed.
Granddaughter, Joelle, made a
special video of Lorne and Bonnie’s
life to show the over 75 people in
attendance. It was a wonderful
afternoon for everyone.
Congrats to Lorne and Bonnie.
Paul Glanville and his family are
here for a 10-day visit with parents
and relatives. The Glanville men
gathered at the Walton Inn for coffee
on Monday. The three brothers,
Lorne, Alex and Les, along with
Paul and Robert, managed to get in
some boy talk as well as Alec
meeting a few other Walton folks to
say hello.

The Walton Brewers travelled to
Atwood on Thursday evening and
suffered yet another loss.
Paul Dolmage was on the hill for
three innings and was relieved by
Scott Cox for the final two in the 9-
2 loss. Scott Leonhardt batted in the
two runs for the Brewers score and
Steve Hoff was 2-2 at the plate. A
game filled with errors and a lack of
hits didn’t help the cause.
The Brewers travelled to Exeter to
face the Braves on Sunday
afternoon, but prior to the beginning
of the game, the rains came and
didn’t let up, so the game was
cancelled.
The Walton Wonders faced the
hard-hitting Kittens and Cougars
team on Thursday evening and came
away with their second win in a
row.
During the game and contributing
to the win were some solid hits from
Jolene McNichol with two singles
and a triple, and Sandra Josling with
a single and a three-run homerun.
The Wonders had to come from
behind in the bottom of the seventh
to capture the win.
It was a really good game on a
very hot night.
Congrats
