The Brussels Bantams were kept
busy this week with three games.
Brussels started the week playing
home to Benmiller. Brendan Stretton
started on the mound. He allowed
two runs on one double, one hit pitch
and two strikeouts.
Brussels offence tied the game
when Morgan Deitner waited a walk,
then scored on a homerun by Ty
Sebastian.
In the second inning Benmiller left
players stranded at second and third,
when the Brussels defence sat the
next three batters.
Sebastian took over the pitching
duties for the remainder of the game.
Seventeen batters would come to the
plate for Benmiller but none scored.
The Brussels bats came alive in the
third. Alix Sholdice, Deitner and
Sebastian all waited walks. Andrew
Lindsay and Stretton doubled
followed by a triple by Zack Watson.
Six runs scored.
In the fourth Rachel Cousins,
Sholdice and Deitner again got into
scoring position on walks. Sebastian
cleared the bases with a grand slam
homerun.
The final score was 13-3 for
Brussels.
Brussels travelled to Seaforth for
the next game. Sebastian had an
almost flawless performance
allowing only one hit, three walks
and 11 strikeouts. Offensively
Deitner was on her game going four
for four with three singles and a
double. Lindsay had two singles for
Brussels. Stretton, Watson,
Sebastian and Emily Prior all had
singles.
Brussels took advantage of the
many wild pitches to finish the game
with a commanding 14-0 win.
Brussels finished the week playing
home to Londesborough on Sunday
afternoon during the heatwave.
Stretton started on the mound for
Brussels. He pitched two innings
allowing no runs on one hit, one
walk and six strikeouts.
Brussels scored three runs on a
single by Jeremy Ross, double by
Stretton and a triple by Sebastian.
Another run was added in the second
when Shea McLean slugged a
homerun.
Londesborough scored one in the
third on walks. Sebastian came in to
relieve Stretton and leave
Londesborough runners stranded on
the bases.
The score remained the same until
the bottom of the fourth. The bases
were loaded with walks to Emily
Baker, McLean and Prior. Stretton
smacked a double to score three.
Londesborough battled back in the
final inning with three singles, four
walks and two hit pitches only to
come up one run shy of the tie.
The final score was 7-6.
The next home game for Brussels
is June 16 at 8:30 p.m. against
Kirkton.
Goderich Blue’s U-14 soccer team
travelled to Blyth to play the
Tormenters on Thursday, June 5.
Joel Pizzati and Josh Raynard
were game captains for Blyth. Wyatt
Bearrs played a strong half in net.
Goderich took advantage of a
lucky break and scored on a penalty
shot to take the lead in the game.
Goderich scored again at the
beginning of the second half after
heading the ball into Blyth’s net.
Blyth never gave up and kept
digging for the ball. Greg
Roetcisoender used the field wisely
and broke away down the right side
of the pitch and shot the ball towards
the net. Leedert vanDorp took
control of the ball and made a
beautiful shot to lob the ball into the
net over the goalie’s head to narrow
the gap in the score.
Hunter Broda played a great
second half in net.
Goderich squeaked out a 2-1
victory. Blyth coaches were pleased
with how well Blyth stood up to this
strong Goderich team.
Winning week for Bantams
On June 2 the Brussels U-10

Brussels.

Goals were scored by Patrick
Franken with two and Dalen Martin.
Assists went to Delayna Smith with
two and Martin.
The final score was 3-1.
On June 4 the game was against
Blyth.
It was a back-and-forth contest
until finally in the second period
Kiaran Jared scored with Martin
assisting.
The game ended at 1-0.
Brussels goalies Eric VanNes and
Justin Ford both played a solid
game.
Safe!
