The former Muriel Davis of Stratford and William Coultes of Morris Twp. were married at St. John’s United Church, Stratford, by Rev. Stuart MacLeod on May 31, 1958. The bride was the daughter of Ken and Gladys Davis, and the groom’s parents were Robert and Ellen Coultes. The maid-of-honour was Carmen Weber of Stratford and Alex Nethery of Blyth was best man. Ushering guests were Bill Davis and Glenn Coultes. Bridesmaids were Shirley Davis and Elizabeth Davis (Stobo). Lea DeYong (Snell) of Brussels was flowergirl and Jim Gillatly was ringbearer. Following the ceremony the couple enjoyed a honeymoon in Atlantic City before returning to their home at the third line of Morris. Bill farmed with his father and brother. Muriel was employed between 1976 and 1988 as circulation manager for The Wingham Advance Times. They retired to Belgrave in 1994. The Coulteses have five daughters: Janice (Mark) Matheson, Joanne (Steven) Robinson, Karen (Paul) Cook, Andrea (Scott) Stevenson and Alison (Brian) Wightman. The family has grown to include 19 grandchildren. Bill and Muriel are busy in the community. Having met through the United Church Young Peoples’ organization they continue to be active in Knox United Church, Belgrave. Both sing in the choir and Muriel has been involved locally and nationally with the United Church Women. Their interests now have become sports-oriented as they delight in attending hockey, ball, soccer, rugby and volleyball games in which their grandchildren are taking part. To celebrate their golden partnership, an open house was held at their home Saturday afternoon. Special guests attended from Teeswater, Seaforth, Auburn, Wingham, Listowel, Blyth, Elmira and Owen Sound. Rev. Stan McDonald of London, a life-long friend of the couple’s, who is recovering from major cancer surgery, remembered them with a phone call in the morning. During the afternoon, Rachel Cook, a granddaughter, wore the original flowergirl’s dress while serving the guests. Coulteses celebrate 50th Congrats Muriel and Bill Coultes of Belgrave celebrated 50 years of marriage with family and friends during an open house at their home on Saturday. Safety first It was pre-school school bus safety day last week at East Wawanosh Public School. Bus drivers and representatives were at the school, presenting to the children and their parents to get them ready for the next school year and gave them their first ride on a bus. After a video they headed to the bus with the help of Dennis Harris, the transportation manager for the Avon Maitland District School Board.
