There were many Comrades busy with arranging and setting up the auction. It began on Friday evening and finished on Saturday. There were nearly 90 items up for bidding and lots of interesting things. It was a great day and a job well done by Sandra Josling, Lisa Glanville, Anne Pelletier, Jim Alton, Dianne Machan and sister Gail. The Friday night supper was well attended. They enjoyed the cold plate dinner. This week will be seasoned chicken. There were 15 1/2 tables of euchre players on hand Saturday. The top prize went to Earl and Irene Herpel with 84 points. Lone hand prizes went home with Joann MacDonald and George Bacon. The Sunday night dance saw a smaller crowd enjoy the music of the Red Rascal Band. The Branch was a very busy place Sunday afternoon with the open house celebration of Murray and Betty Cardiff’s 50th wedding anniversary. Plenty of folks and plenty of food were on hand to make a pleasant afternoon for all who attended to wish the special couple anniversary wishes. Their family of Jeff, Joan and Scott and their families were all on hand to celebrate and visit with the many old friends and guests. Congrats to Murray and Betty. Contineud from page 1 report, with a change there would be absolutely no OPP patrol in North Huron. The story said that OPP would still be responsible for highways and country roads. “There are no highways in North Huron. If your decision is to expand the Wingham force there would be no OPP presence unless it’s to assist Wingham police.” Regarding the quote that “the cost of running a police department for all of North Huron will be higher than it currently costs, but the township will be better served”, Grant said he wondered how Hodgson would know this. “I don’t think he’s in a position to determine that. It will be up to the citizens. And later he says he’s waiting for information from the OPP on calls, occurrences and incidents in the area. So I don’t know what he based that comment on.” Grant also took issue with a comment attributed to councillor Archie MacGowan, stating that people have to wait three hours for OPP to arrive at a scene. “If there’s a specific example I would like to know,” he asked the councillor. MacGowan apologized to the inspector saying he had meant no disrespect, and had personally found OPP services “above reproach”. However, he had been told by a business owner that officers took an hour and a half to arrive at the scene of a break and enter. “First, let me say that three hours is significantly different than an hour and a half,” said Grant. “And a break and enter after the fact is not an emergency call.” He added that it is not uncommon for officers to take an hour to respond to situations that are not emergencies because of what else may be going on in the county. “Things get busy and backed up.” “We are currently not under- staffed and are not having difficulty managing our levels of calls. I feel fairly firmly that we do have a quality level of service.” “Again this is your decision,” re- iterated Grant. “My point is this article was rife with inaccuracies and I felt compelled to comment, and for council to have accurate information.” Chief Poole agreed “wholeheartedly” with all of Grant’s comments. “The OPP are one of the best, if not the best, police forces in Canada. They give a good service geared to exactly what is requested from council. Council has not asked for them to be there all day.” Poole said the working relationship is excellent, and while he would welcome the opportunity to lead an expanded force, he would be happy too, to see things continue as they are. Adminisitrator-clerk Kriss Snell commended Grant on his co- operation thus far with the study. “He has been very forthright and that has certainly been appreciated.” At the BranchVP chairs general meeting Auburn Co-op 519-526-7262 Our greenhouses are brimming with beautiful flowers, shrubs, hanging baskets & more Open Saturdays until 4:00 pm Also: ❦ outdoor lawn furniture ❦ lawn ornaments ❦ fountains ❦ gazebos ❦ beautiful swings ❦ patio planters ❦ garden seeds, etc. ❦ lawn seed ❦ decorative pots ❦ and so much more Save on selected 4” Geraniums only $129 10" & 12" hanging baskets 2/$3000 8 Mitchell St., Teeswater 519-392-7037 J u n e 6 ,7 &8 Garden Decor, Baby Things, Health Sheets, Furniture, Pictures, Frames Great Variety of Gift Ideas for Dad Snacks Draws 22 nn dd WE PAY THE TAX "BABY AND I PROGRAM" CLINTON PUBLIC HOSPITAL June 2008, 10:00 - 11:30 CONFERENCE ROOM 2nd Floor WHEN ATTENDING FOR THE FIRST TIME PLEASE REGISTER IN ADMITTING PROGRAM TOPICS: Wednesday, June 4 - Infant Massage Wednesday, June 11 - Infant Crying, Sleeping & Your Baby Wednesday, June 18 - “Diaper-Free Baby” Speaker - Melanie Ball Wednesday, June 25 - Feeding Your Baby For more info call Veronica Farquhar - 519-482-3440 Ext. 6304 Response times explained
