At the Tuesday, May 20 meeting of North Huron council an application for a temporary use zoning bylaw was approved withlittle discussion. Only oneneighbouring landowner was inattendance. The zoning change is for the WestHalf of Lot 29, Conc. 7 in EastWawanosh. It will allow for the racing of dirt bike and motorcycles, as well as allowing this time an obstacle course and trail riding for ATVs and four-wheel drive trucks. The property is currentlydesignated agriculture and naturalenvironment-limited protection. Council has been approving thetemporary use for the past decade or so, since it became a site for annual motocross racing. This year, however, the applicant, Tom Bitz, had asked council to consider theaddition of the obstacle course andtrail ride. According to county seniorplanner Sandra Weber this type ofzoning is permitted under thePlanning Act for a maximum of three years. It can be extended each time by going through the public meeting process. She suggested that council maywant to consider a permanent changeat which time Bitz would need toinvestigate the feasibility of anofficial plan amendment, zoning andsite plan control. “Over the next three years, the planner and I will have to sit down and discuss it,” said clerk- administrator Kriss Snell. But with a few tweaks to the design, it could easily grace a residential street. A covered entry is a must for any country get-away, and this one is flanked by handsome white-painted, stone-based pilasters for a classic look. Once inside the foyer, a coat closet is located on the left while directly ahead is the staircase to the second floor. The great room, to the left of the foyer, features a wood-burning fireplace that is sure to help create a cosy atmosphere in the winter months and on cool summer evenings. Both the great room and dining room share access to a covered deck, while the dining room enjoys a view of the terrace that extends from the deck. The kitchen’s U-shaped counter configuration will save many steps for the cook, who will also appreciate the deep-silled window over the double sink, the perfect spot for plants and collectibles. Also on the main floor is a guest room, with a convenient three-piece bathroom nearby. Upstairs, Bedroom No. 1 includes a sitting area tucked into the dormer alcove. Sloping ceilings will give this room an air of country charm. The second and third bedrooms also boast sloping ceilings, while another dormer alcove in Bedroom No. 3 offers the perfect place to curl up with a book on a chilly evening. The three bedrooms all share a three-piece bathroom with a double basin. A linen closet is located near the second bedroom. Exterior finishes include board-and-batten siding, painted trim and shingles and decorative braces in the gables. Aflower box adorns the great room’s front window. This home measures 35 feet wide and 36 feet, six inches deep, totalling 1,602 square feet of living space.
