The club is made up of eight first- year members led by Tracey Swart and Monique Baan. Explore 4-H is the club topic and members learned about the 4-H Pledge, crest, motto and all the different clubs and other opportunities available to them as 4- H members. Members then split into groups of three to construct a building out of marshmallows and toothpicks. Each group needed one director and two engineers. The challenge was that one engineer could only use their left hand and the other engineer only their right hand. Both engineers had to keep their eyes closed and listen carefully to the instructions given by the director, who was not allowed to touch the building materials. It was not an easy task, but three structures were created. The next meeting will be held on May 30. Members will be preparing for their big fundraising yard sale at the Cranbrook Hall on Saturday morning, May 31. The topic is recycling and the environment. The meeting was adjourned with the 4-H Motto. New 4-Hers form Grey club By Crystal Blake Once again the Belgrave/Brussels Beef Club is up and going, with the organizational and first meeting under the members’ belts. They are very excited about all the new members who have joined the club this year. The club has visited the Grazing Meadows Farm and homestead of Tim Prior. This was on Thursday, May 8. He showed off his herd of black cattle, and explained how this pasturing system works. He then showed his test plots and told the 4- Hers a bit about them. They consisted of many different types of grass, alfalfa, clovers, etc. He pointed out his fence displays on the way back to the house. Meeting ended with annual elections. Dan Shapton is president; Sara Baker,vice-president; Laura Higgins, secretary; and Crystal Blake, news reporter. The next meeting is planned for June 12.
