Everyone enjoyed the fireworks Sunday night and the children had fun with sparklers even though the weather wasn’t co-operative. Monday morning many went golfing at the Wingham Golf Course. Since it was cold there were many card games. A potluck lunch was enjoyed by all. Special guests were Helen Stonehouse of Braemar Retirement Home,Wingham and Mait and Mary Edgar of Petrolia. Irlma Edgar of Wingham was unable to attend this year. We hope to see her next year. Those attending were from Aylmer, Belgrave, Blyth, Brigden, Clinton, Goderich, London, Lucknow. Petrolia, Tavistock and Wingham. From the very young offour generations to the oldestgeneration everyone looks forwardto the May 24 weekend at the farmand the fun of being together.Congratulations to Bodie andOllie Craig who will celebrate theirwedding anniversary on June 3.Happy birthday to Grant Sparlingand Albert Wasson who both celebrate their birthdays on June 5. BLYTH UNITED CHURCH Greeting at Blyth United Church on Sunday, May 18 were Terry and Barb Richmond. Ushering were Fred Hakkers, Hope Button and Terry Richmond. Guest organist was Lynda McGregor. Guest speaker was Jan Logtenberg. The call to worship was repeated responsively and was followed by the first hymn, God is Here. The prayer of confession and the assurance of pardon were repeated in unison. Jan read a story of kids at camp. The choir anthem was Draw the Circle Wide. Jon Hakkers read the minute for Menesetung. The Lord’s Prayer was sung and Candice Abel-Rinn carried the candle downstairs for the Sunday school time of fellowship.Scripture reading was Genesis 1:1, 2:4a, 2 Corinthians 13: 11-13, andthe gospel reading was fromMatthew 28: 16-20.The hymn, Tell Me the Stories ofJesus was sung.Steven Sparling reflected on hisexperiences at camp. Jan’s messageto the adults was about Camp Menesetung. She read another story of how kids need camps and camps need kids. The UCW is taking orders for meat pies for September. If you wish to place an order call Joann at 519- 523-9274. The Sunday school is collecting articles from Camp Menesetung’s wish list. The Sunday school is also collecting new socks for the Women’s Shelter. The offering was received followed by the offering prayer repeated in unison and prayers of the people. Greeting at Blyth United Church on Sunday, May 25 were Barb and Terry Richmond. Organist was Margaret Kai. The Sunday school and choir were in charge of the service. During the processional the choir sang It’s a Song of Praise to theMaker and Jesus Loves Me. Thechildren sang Kum Ba Yah and ThisLittle LIght of Mine.David Onn read the call toworship. The choir sang What Doesthe Lord Require of You. He led thegathering prayer and the choir sangPsalm 100. The minute forMenesetung was read. Lorna Fraser read a piece called Time for the Young at Heart followed by a reading by the teens and the hymn Let all Things Now Living. David Onn reflected on The Hands of Faith. Jessica and Grant Sparling played Calm as the Night. The prayer of dedication was followed by a solo by Cheryl Cronin, Eagles Wings. The last hymn was The Lord is My Shepherd. Book lovers and avid readers, here is your chance to stock up on summer reading materials and find genuine treasures to cherish. The Blyth Festival is holding its 31st annual Huron County’s Largest Used Book Sale on June 6 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. and June 7, from 9 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. at the Blyth Memorial Community Hall. Admission is free. Hard and soft covers, harlequins, videos, CDs, records and even board games and puzzles are available for purchase at unbeatable prices, promising hours of entertainment. Refreshments are available including Lynda’s famous rhubarb custard and apple crumb pies for just $7. (Order from June 2 - 6 by calling the box office at 519-523-9300. Volunteers, under the guidance of event chair Margaret Webster, begin sorting books and setting up the sale on June 2. Books will be accepted between May 26 and June 2 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Magazines, Reader’s Digest, National Geographic, textbooks and encyclopedias cannot be accepted. OPP say the vehicle swerved to avoid the ATVthen collided with the guardrails on the opposite side of the road. The ATV fled the scene in a northeasterly direction. The four wheeler is described as grey with a "homemade" push bar on front, no licence plates, no front light, no muffler and a bigger wheel base. The driver was wearing a blue and grey helmet with decals. The passenger on the ATV had blond hair and was wearing a red sweater with no helmet. “Luckily this wasn’t a fatal collision investigation,” said Const. Joanna Van Mierlo. “Police wish to speak to the owner of the ATV.” Anyone with information is asked to contact CRIME STOPPERS at 1- 800-222-T.I.P.S. (8477) or the Huron OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Let’s Celebrate 2008! Blyth Youth Park Monday, June 2 at 6 pm at the Blyth Lions Park All youth and interested members of the community are invited to attend a Potluck supper. Please bring main course or dessert with plates and cutlery. Drinks are provided by the Youth Park Parent Committee. Come see what we are adding to the Park in 2008 and for the youth to show you how much they enjoy the Park. Rain date: Monday, June 9 1st Anniversary OPP seeking ATV driver Selling their wares The cutest little vendors anywhere were in business last week as the students from Blyth’s Montessori school raised money for the Heart and Stroke Foundation with a yard sale Friday.
