HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Citizen, 2008-05-29, Page 2The feasibility of moving the
ambulance stationed in Brussels
from the fire hall to Huronlea home
for the aged is currently being
explored by Huron East council.
Council asked fire chief Marty
Bedard at its May 20 meeting
to delay calling for tenders for
an exhaust fan for the hall
until several more weeks have
passed.
Currently, the ambulance
stationed in Brussels from 7 a.m. to
7 p.m. is experimenting with
parking at Huronlea, with the engine
running to maintain a specific
internal temperature, and the
paramedics stationed inside the
home.
With its new prospective position,
the point was raised that because
Huronlea has outdoor electrical
outlets, that perhaps a connection to
an outdoor outlet should be explored
as a power source for the ambulance
other than idling.
Councillor Joe Steffler said that
with the cost of gas and the harm to
the environment and the
ambulance’s engine that constant
idling will do, exploring this option
would make sense.
Initially, the municipality worked
with Huron County to help house an
ambulance in Huron East to keep up
response times.
However, no new agreement has
been signed yet to officially move
the ambulance to Huronlea.
